I'm a homeschooling mother of four, two of whom are school aged. Margaret has been working mostly with my five-year-old while I work with his older brother. She has found creative ways to use the curricula that we have selected, which has helped to keep my very silly, daydreaming, chatty little boy engaged. For example, in his first tutoring session, Margaret had him stand facing her and pretend that they were both mirror images of each other while she demonstrated (in the air) the proper strokes for the letters of the alphabet. She has used mnemonic devices to help him learn to write his numbers correctly. This past week, she brought in two cookie sheets and some flour, and she and my son wrote their phonograms in the flour as he worked to master the sounds that each makes as well as how to write his letters and numbers. Overall, Margaret has been very patient and sweet, and is proving to be a great fit for my little boy. (She'll be working more with my older son in the upcoming weeks, and I'm looking forward to seeing how she gets him excited about his lessons.)

As a homeschooling Mom of 20 plus years, I have taught elementary science using a variety of curricula and supplemental resources, to children with different learning styles, strengths and weaknesses. I believe integrating other subjects where beneficial and using a hands-on approach wherever possible, bring relevance and greater interest to the student, engaging him/her in the learning process to a greater degree. ... My daughter was close to failing 7th grade math with a low grade on her final report card. I tried to help her, but my approach didn't work as I was impatient. I was reluctant in hiring a tutor, but I gave Andrew a try. He was accommodating in coming to my house for his math lessons with my daughter. Although I did not want to interfere with the lessons, I couldn't help but overhear some of the tutoring. He has great patience and a very good approach to understanding the problems my daughter had with learning math. He not only taught math, but he also changed the way my daughter approached problem solving.
As my daughter completed her first quarter of the 8th grade, she received an A in math. My opinion of anything has always been based on results and Andrew has earned my respect. Thank you Andrew.

"Math, Science, Engineering, Biology"
I hold an engineering degree from Bucknell University. I was a Teaching Assistant for 2 years and taught an art class for at least 3 years while I was at Bucknell. I also volunteered as a math tutor for a little while. I try to keep things fun and instructional. I think that tutoring takes a sense of humor and a willingness to acknowledge that we are learning together. It is the part of the student to grow. It is my part to help present the material in different ways so that I can help them g... ... More
