We just had Janine start with our son who is 15. He struggles in school which makes it hard for him to keep very motivated. He has already been pegged as a "poor" student. And he feels stupid... After his first session with Janine he was actually excited! He was just amazed what they all covered. The worked on grammar on a paper he had written, went over review questions for his Biology class, and Janine reviewed the chapter with him for his upcoming final. Janine stayed for 2 hours and he said the time flew by. He was amazed how smart and focused she is (he said to me "I think she lives and breathes to study"'s to more lessons like that! :)

"Tutor in Math, Science, French, English, Theater (K-college)"

I have had a longstanding fascination with biology throughout my entire life. I have worked with students at all levels of biology in elementary, middle, and high school (from Intro to AP) as well as college students. My primary focus with students is to help them make connections to the real world, particularly when dealing with processes at the cellular level to understand the intricate workings single cellular and multi-cellular creatures. Often, I work with animations as well as analogies to help students fully understand the material and to actively engage students. I hold a degree in neu ... More

My daughter described her second session with JC as "incredible." The first was really good, but she said that so many aspects of the mathematical operations (7th grade math) just really gelled for her in this session. For a child who was at risk of failing math, this has been a real breakthrough.

"Harvard Grad tutoring SAT, ACT, Spanish, Math, ISEE, SHSAT, etc!"

As an interviewer for applicants to Harvard University and an alumna of the Spence School in Manhattan, I am quite familiar with the college application process. I have met and interviewed many students applying to Harvard over the last several years, so I am well versed in both the existing competition for coveted spots at elite universities, as well as proper and successful self-presentation for college interviews. I believe that every student's top priority should be finding the college that will be the best fit for his/her personality and career/education aspirations. I can help students ... More

"Dr. Larry - PhD in Biochemistry - Columbia U. expert in Organic Chem"

As a chemistry major, a thorough understanding of the theories and principles of molecular bond formation and common mechanisms of organic chemistry reactions was requisite. Identifying that I was a person whom could reach out to fellow classmates struggling with topics, I was appointed to TA undergraduate organic chemistry for 2 years where I was responsible for the instructing a lab section of 30-60 students which furthered my educating experience. In my senior year, I was involved in primary research developing reaction schemes to generate estrogen analogues for drug screening trials. Th ... More

Peter was an excellent tutor. I had him help me prepare for the SAT. He showed me all the tricks there are to get the highest score possible. It took a few tries to set up an appointment with him unfortunately. Overall, I would give him four out of five stars, he is very nice and tolerant, but it is difficult to schedule appointments with him.

I have been a full-time tutor for about 2 years now, almost exclusively focused on standardized test prep. In many ways the ISEE and SSAT are miniaturized versions of the ACT and SAT, which were the first two tests I taught. While the material on the ISEE is more age-appropriate for the students taking the test, many of the strategies for quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, and reading comprehension are the same. Even scores in the Mathematics Achievement section can be improved by adopting test-taking strategies that students will use again when they take the SAT and/or ACT, as well as ... More

I have the highest opinion of John D.'s tutoring style. He first familiarizes with the material and studies it deeply together with you and makes sure that you get to understand the details of the exercises. He gives you time to think of what he has taught to you and also sends follow-up emails to know how you are doing. When it comes to appointments, he is punctual and does not check the watch to see if 60 minutes are already up. I have had other tutors that are checking their watches all the time and at 00:59:00 (hh/mm/ss), they are already wrapping up. That is not John D.' style. He is there for you to learn and is very calm when explaining the subjects.

"Excel/Accounting and Writing Tutor"

Microsoft Excel is one of my favorite subjects to teach. The software is extremely handy for a variety of reasons. With the right training, the features in Microsoft Excel along with its user friendly design can be utilized for sophisticated decision making. The various commands and formulas at your disposal will make the possibilities endless! The reader can probably tell by now that I am big proponent of this application, which makes teaching the subject all the more rewarding. There is no need to be a computer programmer to enhance appearance, reconfigure data or run scenarios in yo ... More
