"Effective Elementary Educator"

I believe in the right and ability of all children to learn at their own pace. I am skilled at quickly identifying a child's needs, level, learning style and adapting my teaching to that child. I use a variety of teaching techniques tailored to the child's style and need. I prefer to keep my teaching student centered, not teacher centered, so the students guide the direction of the lesson based on their prior knowledge and need. Student centered learning keeps the interest level high and the ... ... More

We are extremely happy with Teri. She comes to our home once a week and helps our daughter with mostly reading but truly helps her with any subject our daughter currently needs help in. She has given us tools to help our daughter with spelling and reading. She has been kind to our other children and dogs when they float in and out of the room while they are working. Just the other day my husband and I were talking about how much we have all learned from Teri in just a short time and how much she has helped our daughter improve in her schooling. We have already seen some grade and confidence improvements. Thank you Teri!

"PA Certified ESL, English, and Speech/Language Teacher"

I give students a vocabulary pretest before they read a story. Students then use a computer to find pictures that represent the meaning of any words that they are unfamiliar with. They create a graphic organizer of the pictures and we print it out. The students then label the pictures with the vocabulary words. The students refer to the pictures/words while reading the story. In addition, I teach students reading strategies that they can use to help them determine the meanings of new words that they encounter while reading. ... More
