I highly recommend Morgehn as a tutor. I have worked with Morgehn as a student and she has a wonderful rapport. Her ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching both basic and advanced mathematical concepts are both truly amazing and superior. She has excellent written and verbal communication skills and is extremely patient, organized, reliable, computer savvy and skilled in problem-solving.
To me problem solving is an important component of mathematics education because it is the single vehicle which seems to be able to achieve at school level all three of the values of mathematics: functional, logical and aesthetic.
She knows that presenting a problem and developing the skills needed to solve that problem is more motivational than teaching the skills without a context. Such motivation gives problem solving special value as a vehicle for learning new concepts and skills or the reinforcement of skills already acquired.
Morgehn approaches mathematics through a problem solving approach meaning she creates a context which simulates real life and therefore justifies the mathematics rather than treating it as an end in itself. She is able to communicate mathematical rules and concepts clearly, a process which is central to mathematics and to any problem-solving approach. She easily accomplishes these tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude.
What I found to be Morgehn's best asset was her ability to utilize her minor in psychology to futher read or understand the mind of the student and their train of thought. As a role model instructor, she is in a league of her own and even goes that extra mile to provide that extra instructional support based on individual student assessments and learning style. Every aspect of her teaching aims to enhance the student's logical reasoning, to develop a generic ability to solve real life problems and to apply mathematics in real life situations.
Other areas that play to her many strengths are message delivery and instruction, student assessment, interaction, communication, documentation, administration and lesson management. In a nutshell, students will learn a lot out of her first lesson and that was enough for my family to decide that she was a "keeper," and to continue working with her as a Math tutor.
I have no doubt in my mind that Morgehn would contribute effectively to your learning because after all, results say it all.
