"Dallas Area Tutor"
I have taught several classes on effective studies skills. I have broken study skills down into particular areas, including: organization, note taking, improved reading comprehension, effective studying techniques, and test taking strategies. Once students master each of these areas, they will find that they can do their homework faster and more effectively. They will also be able to overcome some of their test taking anxiety and improve their exam scores. As a result, they build their confidence in their abilities and their grades naturally improve. ... Pam saw my son's learning needs and writing blocks in 15 minutes of sitting down with him. Fortunately, she recognized it, was familiar with it, and had a plan to work on it. They hit it off immediately. He is fully engaged every minute he spends with her and has fun discussing what he has read. And then can actually write something about it (types it really) given her patient guidance. Today he tried to hit the 'snooze' button when the alarm went off signaling the end of the session. AND!, rather than just leave, she stayed until he felt they had completed what they were working on. He knows he matters to her. She listens, encourages and responds.
We've never used a tutor before and were intimidated about finding someone who could keep my son interested (there's no Wii stamped on her forehead) and teach him to write a real paragraph or eventually a paper, be worthy of the expense, and not run away in frustration. I'm mom; I want it all for my son.
Boy, were we pleasantly surprised?! We are very blessed to find Pam and look forward to the school year instead of fearing the first English Writing assignment.
We all feel we have made the right choice!

Having done well in both high school and in college while working full- time, I have learned and applied many study techniques along the way. Many of them include the SQ3R method, using flash cards for memorization and the use of mnemonics to remember important form ... More
