"Passionate Tutor of Lang. Arts, Social Studies, Pre-Algebra, & Spanish"
I know several efficient methods for studying, including but not limited to: visual (flashcards, pictures, etc.), audio (study songs, verbal repetition, etc.), kinesthetic/tactile (study gestures, writing repetition, etc.), even for students with A.D.H.D./A.D.D. or who are active (reward systems to keep them focused, individualized schedules with appropriate breaks based on attention span), specific note taking (Cornell Notes, short-hand techniques, outlines, etc.), and advice on proper study habits (both what I've read from scientific studies, and personal experience). "Carol, Reading and Writing In English"
I had to read and reread and study all through school. I was not one that could just listen or do it once and remember. I took remedial math at a junior college, before going on to earn an Associate's as a Legal Assistant. I then went on to obtain a Bachelor's In English/Teaching, with Journalism as my minor. I am now working toward my Master's in Adult Education and Training, while I complete my novel for Random House/IUniverse where I have already signed a publication contract.

"I am a successful retired math teacher, the key is understanding "
I have taught for 26 years at the middle school, upper school, and college mathematics level. I have taught in both public and private schools. I believe in team work and have encouraged students to work together to grasp concepts being explored. Understanding is the key, not memorization or rote learning. Reading is also essential for success in math. I have always found that the better the math student, the better the reader. the quality of the math performed is more relevant than the ... ... More
"Let's read, write, and speak English together!"
I have ten years of experience teaching grades 7 through 12 in Yuma County. I teach English and Life Skills and work with "at risk" students in my full-time teaching position. Approximately 30% of my students have IEPS and are learning disabled. Additionally, I have taught part-time for Northern Arizona University (Yuma Campus) helping Chinese students improve their English skills.
Positive and patient, I love to help students find their hidden reading and writing skills. My learning s... ... More
I have been working with Matt for about 4 lessons now (sign language) and very pleased so far. He is very approachable, creates an atmosphere for learning, and flexible with meeting times if I have to rearrange my schedule. He has shown a genuine interest in sign language as a whole as well as my goals behind learning it. I would encourage anyone who is interested in learning sign language to just contact Matt for a meet and greet (he and I met at a local Starbucks for our meet/greet) and go from there.

I went to Jose to get help in Spanish with the goal of becoming fluent and being able to teach math in Spanish, as I am a math teacher myself. After assessing my abilities, Jose invited me to join his GED math class which is taught entirely in Spanish. Since I am beyond grammar and pronunciation lessons, he reasoned that exposure to a group of native speakers and practice using what I already know is what I actually need at this point, not independent tutoring with him. I definitely appreciated his willingness to suggest what is best for me, even though it meant he would no longer receive my tutoring fees.
