I am a very shy person who has agoraphobia and was very nervous about meeting Izumi sensei, but my desire to learn Japanese is strong. Izumi is a kind, gentle and patient tutor. She is able to answer questions even if they are not on the material you are covering at that specific moment. She tailors the lessons to your learning and your speed.
She uses a variety of learning tools so no matter what kind of learner you are ( i.e book, dvd, comics, flash cards etc ) she incorporates all of these and more to make the lessons fun and engaging. I look forward to my next lesson.

Alex Toshiaki M.
I've been attending lessons with Alex Sensei for over a month now and it's been a great way for me to pick up my Japanese studies again after last studying in college more than 10 years ago.
He suggested a couple options for textbooks and I chose Genki, the same one I'd used in college, but a new and improved version. In addition to using the textbook, Alex Sensei keeps the lessons interesting with Q&A, role-playing, and listening challenges (humbling, but super interesting.)
I'm planning a trip to Japan next year and I'm confident that if I keep up with my Japanese lessons, Alex Sensei will help me get into good shape for handling travel situations and also having interesting conversations beyond basic greetings and introductions.
As long as you're not going to schedule anything during my normal lesson time, I highly recommend trying out a lesson with Alex Sensei!

"Amna R., Chem + Math Tutor"
Hi! I'm Amna. I'm currently a fourth-year student at San Jose State University (SJSU) studying Biomedical Engineering. While taking Chemistry at SJSU, I learned that the most effective teachers are the ones who are able to understand the students, their problems and struggles with specific parts of the course, and speak their language. This allows the students to succeed in any course. This is the methodolody I've used to teach my Chemistry workshops, and that I continue to use when tutoring... ... More
