My son was struggling in French. Jana created a safe, friendly, warm environment where he could ask questions, feel okay about the things he did not understand, accept suggestions on how to improve his study habits and actually decide that French is "not so bad." He may even continue studying it. I will use Jana for sure if he does -- but not wait so long to start!!

I began learning French at age 13 and have a near-native level. I studied French throughout high school and received a score of 5 on the AP French exam. Chris has a way with teaching my son that is engaging, encouraging and ever so patient. My son has been slow in learning math and writing techniques. With Chris' help, he is gaining confidence and is breaking through his overwhelming feeling of being behind in class & feeling excited about understanding his subjects. I'm so grateful for the help getting back on track. Chris is a great tutor!

"K-12, Bilingual, Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics Tutoring"
I have a high degree of competence in the following algebra related areas: balancing equations, factoring, polynomials, graphing equations including polynomials, and solving problems that require the use of algebra to solve. The algebra I've taught as an elementary teacher relates mostly to elementary school level, but I was successful in Algebra I and II as a student at Miramonte High School in Orinda as well as Trigonometry and College Algebra at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. I hope this will help you decide to hire me as your son's tutor in the coming weeks and months.

We appreciate Gigi's patient and understanding in tutoring my son today. She created an environment where my son was able to understand and work on problems with Gigi. We look forward to having Gigi work with my son.

NB: When school is in session I will only accept students within 10 miles of Alameda.
I am a high school English teacher and an avid surfer. Back when I was in graduate school, I started working as a professional tutor, and found I really loved it. I enjoy collaborating with students one-on-one to develop a customized plan to meet a goal. I have helped students in Algebra, Geometry, French, Latin, English, and both ACT and SAT prep. Having been a student myself, I strive to organize ... ... More
This is our first time using a tutor for our daughter who is a high school student taking AP Chemistry. She has had only one tutoring session with Daniel. After her first tutoring session, we did ask our daughter if she felt comfortable with Daniel and how well he explained things. She felt overall that things went well and felt comfortable with him. This is a new experience for our daughter. She felt that for the first tutoring session it went quite well, and that Daniel was able to explain the assignment clearly. If she had any difficulty working out a formula that wasn't clear to her, then he would help her to understand how to go about working out the formula in question.

It's nice working with Paola. I have two girls ages 3 and 5 whose attention span is not great. She is patient and always encouraging. In fact, she has come up with a new strategy to tutor each for 30 minutes. This way they each get one-on-one time. Great idea!

"Italian, bilingual, patient teacher."
Having an Italian father and an American mother I had to grow up bilingual. Half of the family only spoke Italian and the other half English. I grew up in Italy so I know the language and the culture and the differences between living in Italy and in the US. Subtle differences such as when you're offered something saying "yes, thank you" as opposed to "yes, please".
I know first hand the challenges, and benefits, of handling 2 different languages, and as I teach Italian to my adoptive niece... ... More
