I have spent a 35 year career in medical physics working in hospital environments, doing research, administration, and teaching. I have taught undergraduates, medical school students, medical residents, nurses, x-ray equipment engineers, and I have also helped graduate students prepare their thesis defense. I knew from childhood I wanted to be a teacher, but never fit into the system very well. As an "outsider", I have tasted the cultural and educational difficulties students can have. Presently I work as a Reading Specialist with Middle and High School special needs students. My case load consists of students with a variety of disabilities such as Autism, Aspergers, ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia,and emotional difficulties.For my students with ADD/ADHD I am very cognizant that they may need periods of time within each session to move about and that as instruction occurs they may need to manipulate something in their hands or possibly chew gum.
