Hi there. I have to admit even the summary of my resume won't fit in the two paragraphs that Wyzant is allowing. :) So here's a very abbreviated verison. I received the Ph.D. in engineering from UCSD in 1992 and a B.S. degree in mathematical sciences (probability and statistics) from UCSB in 1985. I've received technical awards from various professional organizations and an honorary doctorate too. In 2009, I had the great privilege to be named one of the top100 most influential alumni in t... ... More

"Patient tutor, nonjudgemental, gets reasons and concepts across."
I have studied Calculus since junior year in my high school. I use it extensively in my research work: Perpetual American swaption pricing.
In fact, this is my strongest subject overall. I have leveraged it to get a degree in Engineering, an A.B.D. in Finance, and a Phd in Statistics. All of these subject matters require Calculus as a foundational tool. ... More

We highly recommend Lewis!! My son was failing precalculus/trigonmetry before Lewis came along and his confidence was the lowest I've ever seen. After only 3 sessions, his grades have improved tremendously. He received a "B" on a quiz last week, and an A+ this week! Lewis provides clear explanations to a complex subjectmatter through reallife examples. His passion for math is contagious!

"Expert EconomicsMath Tutor (W&M/Oxford/LSE/The Fed)(12 Years Credit)"
I have won many awards in Algebra including for first place individual speed and team awards (MathCounts) and very high awards for Math Olympiad (scoring 24/25). Since then, I have continued to stay sharp in algebra by completing coursework in Differential Equations and advanced Calculus, by tutoring students in algebra and in quantitative GRE, and of course by applying algebra to everyday life. ... My tutor, Ed was very approachable and helped break down the statistical methods so that I could understand them. His meeting times were always flexible to my schedule and he was always prompt. He was always easy to reach either by phone or email and he was always prepared for our lessons. Without his assistance I would have never made it through my college level stats class. Thank you Ed!

Algebra introduces the concept of variables. Students of algebra apply previously learned rules like the distributive law and PEMDAS to expressions and equations which now include variables. In addition, they learn rules like the addition principle of equality and the multiplication principle of equality. The goal is to manipulate the equation so a value of the variable can be calculated. Sorting out all these rules and deciding what should be done next can be confusing. I have taught classes in Algebra 1 as well as tutored the subject to students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. I ... More

"Enthusiastic and experienced science teacher"
I have extensive teaching experience (close to 20 years), including smallgroup and oneonone (effectively tutoring, as a teaching assistant in an upperlevel course) as well as several years of community college teaching (Rowan College at Gloucester County); in both, I received high student ratings. I enjoy helping people understand concepts, especially if it makes a big difference in their lives, and I like figuring out mnemonics and other ways to remember factual details.

Manfred is a great tutor, he is always on time and prepared. He is very knowledgeable of the material (precalculus) he is very informative and extremely helpful. My son learned a lot from him during his tutoring sessions. I would highly recommend him!

After taking the GMAT and doing poorly on the quantitative section, I had just two months to improve before retaking it. I contacted Peter and immediately felt comfortable that he could help me. He is knowledgeable about math but more importantly, a very good and encouraging teacher. After each session, I was more confident and felt my skills were improving. I'm happy to say my GMAT score went up 90 points and I absolutely attribute the increase to Peter's help.

My daughter is a high school senior who had difficulty with her math (calculus). Rediet was extremely helpful from the start. She was able to turn around my daughter's confidence. After a couple of sessions, my daughter was able to focus and concentrate. She was so happy that I had Rediet as her tutor. Rediet is a polite and well mannered tutor. I highly recommend her.

Jonathan was a great tutor and helped in so many different ways. He is very knowledgeable and gave me great advice and insight each session we had together. Some of the test taking tips that he gave me were great and I look forward to using on them on my upcoming NREMT.
