"Excellent Instruction in Spanish, Athletics, and Mathematics"
My name is Steven, and since graduating from college I have enjoyed working in various student programs both in local schools and in my own church student department.
Because I was raised in a bilingual household, I am able to teach and explain the Spanish language in a natural, easy-to-understand manner.
In high school and college, I excelled in both math and science classes. During my college career, I completed several advanced mathematics classes up to Calculus 3.

I have been teaching and tutoring for over 30 years. One of my greatest rewards is the success I have had with my students in reading. Eighty five percent of my students have tested on or above grade level. By the students having this success, their confidence and self esteem also increased. They not only like this success but their parents and teachers.
Eighty five percent of the students have tested to be on grade level or above. All of them have made progress in reading.

"Happy to help students of Spanish and young writers"
I look forward to tutoring students of all ages in Spanish. I love the language and enjoy helping people make sense of it. My back ground is varied. I have an undergraduate degree in History and in Spanish from Tufts University. Also, I earned a master's degree in secondary education from The College Of New Jersey. I lived in South America for many years and taught at an international school there. This was great fun and a wonderful professional experience.

Sheila was very helpful to my son, who struggled with Chemistry. She had a calm and organized approach to the subject matter, making it seem less daunting. In a short period of time, she helped bring my son's grade up two levels. I would highly recommend her.

"Patient, Friendly, Effective Science and Math Tutor 7-12"
I thoroughly enjoy working with students - it's especially heart-warming to help a student who is struggling and perhaps discouraged - to watch them light up as they understand their work, regain their skills, and once again look forward to going to class!
I'm a patient, friendly, and very effective tutor for science and math students in grades 7-12, with skills and instincts honed over many years of teaching and tutoring - and so I sincerely look forward to helping you and your child. All ... ... More
"Inquiry based learning for all ages "
A person has to want to learn. When there is nothing but confusion about a concept or operation, and failure has been a part of the instruction, a student is more likely to succeed in understanding if they have formulated a question about what they don't know. Posing a question allows the student to define the issues in their own thoughts, words and understanding. It makes the instruction on their terms and provides enthusiasm about solving a problem of their own creation. It is especial... ... More
We continue to see improvement with Alexander and he gets used to school schedules again.
Lucia continued working with my son after the summer break, getting back into the study habits was difficult for him, but Lucia continues to maintain a constant level of assertiveness to gain compliance.
Lucia worked well with my son who can at times be less than attentive. Her methods kept him focused and he enjoyed the session. She was firm in her demeanor and he made good progress for the first lesson. We intend to continue with Lucia for his tutoring needs.
Week 2 - Seeing improvement as the relationship continues to develop between Lucia and my son. While this process is not quick, I think Lucia is up to the task of dealing with a little boy who does not always focus well. Her methodology seems to be working well.
Week 3 - Continue to see incremental improvements, Lucia works hard with my son, sometimes he is not always as attentive as he needs to be. It is obvious that Lucia cares about the progress made and is interested in his progress.
week 4 - Lucia continues to explore alternative methods and techniques to apply to my son's tutoring. We are seeing positive results for the continued efforts and Lucia's willingness to approach the situation with different methods. So far so good!
Week 5 - Lucia has used various techniques to break up the session into segments that my son can focus on, the results are improvements in his confidence and he is now sounding out words and not guessing.

I have worked with many students diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. I try to involve each student as thoroughly as possible in the learning process, paying particular attention to the emotions of the student with whom I am working. By providing a structured and predictable learning environment I help my students to achieve greater success when learning.
For students with ADD or ADHD I also break down large tasks and pieces of information into more manageable sections so that they do not become overwhelmed. By breaking tasks down, students are able to achieve greater confidence and allev ... More
