After one meeting with Jack, my son is ready to meet again! He enjoyed Jack's approach for the first meeting. We both suspect the subsequent meetings will be set up to target additional test taking skills/strategy along with review of practice test homework in all 3 areas. Looks like we are off to the right start.

I have tutored hundreds of students, individually and in classroom settings, in the full range of subjects tested on standardized exams. These subjects include math, reading comprehension, writing, and analytical ability. I have helped students compose their college and graduate school application essays and personal statements. My tutoring experience began in my undergraduate years, when I was employed by the Columbia University Tutoring Service. Since then, I have helped students prepare fo... ... More

I am impressed with Andrea S's strategy. She first made sure that she understood what my daughter hoped to gain from the tutoring sessions (set expectations). Right away my daughter was happy as Andrea S listened to her wants and needs. She then told her how she expected to be able to do this. Again she set up expectations that my daughter had a part in. She asked if this sounded reasonable. From the first 2 hour lesson I saw improvements. The improvement was my daughter turning off the radio when she did home work for Andrea S. I asked her about this. She said there is no music when taking the SAT so it is best that she mimics the environment. I think this is the first time she has ever done quiet homework. The other improvement was her willingness to read to me. She asked if I would like her to read to me! I would. And she did. Andrea S and my daughter have had only 2 - 2 hour sessions and already I see improvements.

"Former professor, now a homeschool mom and tutor."

I was a Lecturer for 5 years at Hesser College and Chester College in multiple subjects. Before teaching, I spent 10+ years as a vision researcher at Harvard and its affiliates. In addition to teaching at the college level, I also homeschooled my son through middle school using an accredited curriculum. His exemplary test scores for curriculum progress and the ISEE standardized tests demonstrated both his learning and my teaching ability in all middle school subject matter. I am a patient... ... "Shawn, the Holy Grail for Students of History & Lit"

As a history teacher, tutor and instructional aide, I have guided my students to learn course content, but also to become overall better students. I emphasize improving organizational and study skills to create a more permanent solution to academic challenges. I also focus my learning activities around concepts and skills to build understanding, rather than focusing simply on rote knowledge. Anyone and everyone can understand history. At its most basic, history is about relationships. We all... ... More

My daughter recently met with Keith to prepare for her ACT exam. She said that their 2 hour sessions flew by and that Keith gave her many tools to solve the ACT problems. He boosted her confidence by providing her with positive feedback when she was right as well as strategies for her to use when the problems became more difficult. Her time spent with Keith exceeded our expectations. Her ACT scores placed her in the 98% nationally after her sessions with Keith. I highly recommend him for anyone preparing for their ACTs or SATs.
Shashi is an excellent tutor. She not only knows how to do math, she is very good at explaining it. I have had other tutors who weren't as patient but Shashi is always willing to explain things again if I get confused. I like how Shashi has always prepared for our lesson and looked at my homework problems (they are online) so she already knows the answers. Some tutors don't look in advance and then they spend the time you are paying them to work out the problem and sometimes get stuck on the spot. Shashi already knows so that enables her to use the time explaining the concepts to me. I also like how she knows how important it is for me to get a good homework grade. I'm glad I was able to work with her.
