Presently I work as a Reading Specialist with Middle and High School special needs students. My case load consists of students with a variety of disabilities such as Autism, Aspergers, ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia,and emotional difficulties.For my students with ADD/ADHD I am very cognizant that they may need periods of time within each session to move about and that as instruction occurs they may need to manipulate something in their hands or possibly chew gum. In order to build a strong understanding of any subject there are three things that are needed a) a reason to learn b) a willingness to try c) a good teacher These 3 things are clearly related. A good teacher helps provide a reason to learn, and willingness to try help makes a good student. What I do best is engage students one-on-one or in very small groups. The conscientious student will learn the material, and will learn to think critically about the material.
