I first started tutoring in high school as part of our volunteer program. I assisted students with their math and physics homework. After high school I was hired on as a program assistant at a BGCA-affiliated youth center and was primarily responsible for Power Hour, which was a 2 hour period of time directly after school that was intended to give the kids a place to do their homework and study in an environment that was tailored to help them focus and be comfortable. Tutoring is an act of observation. It succeeds where normal instruction fails because it is geared toward a student's particular strengths.
