I am a Ph.D. statistician, and I have a long experience in teaching mathematics and statistics as a university professor (grad and undergrad level) as well as a research/statistical consultant. I strongly believe that I have the skills, experience, and training required to communicate mathematical and statistical results to very diverse individuals and audiences. "Mathematics Tutor / TA @ University of Maryland"

Hello, I am currently a mathematics graduate student at University of Maryland. I love to teach and have experience as a TA in differential equations, linear algebra, and calculus. As an undergrad, I worked as a tutor in many other subjects including, but not limited to, pre-calculus, calculus, probability, statistics, discreet math, multi-variable calculus, and various other basic and advanced subjects. When I work with students I like to be in contact with them before each meeting to set ... ... More

It has been a real pleasure to work with Caitlin! For an adult re-learner such as myself, the primary requirement of a tutor is to provide incentive and inspiration and generally make the learning process enjoyable so as to ensure that the student does not become distracted by other interests or concerns. This she has done, in large part because of her ability to discern what kind of learning situation works best for me and to tailor the learning approach to best meet my own needs. One special consideration with an adult re-learner such as myself is to make sure the individual feels comfortable working in a situation where the student might possibly be experiencing feelings of frustration at having to step backwards and go over material which he or she had once mastered. This might especially be the case with a tutor who is considerably younger. Caitlin was always sensitive to this and was able to make me feel very much at ease working with her and with the material. I can think of no higher praise for Caitlin than to say that she has helped me to re-experience that same joy and wonder which I felt upon first learning some of the things which I am now reviewing. Her ability to adapt the tutoring process to the individual needs of the student would work well with any type of learner, whether an adult re-learner or a school student.

"Versatile, patient multi-subject tutor"

My name is Caitlin K. and I am a senior at George Fox University in Newberg, OR. I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering and work hard to attain excellence in whatever I do. In high school, I was ranked 3rd in my class with a 3.99 GPA. Since I am still in school, I know well what students are going through. I know the panic of realizing an upcoming test is going to be harder than expected and I know the frustration of trying to do the math homework and not having any clue as to what the next ... ... Mr. James is a great tutor. If you need a patient person to work with and teach you or your child math/algebra then he fits the bill. After every session, I would ask my son if he felt like he was learning and if he understood what he was taught, the answer was "yes". He told me that Mr. James breaks down the information so he understood exactly what he was doing. Mr. James worked around his schedule and our busy schedule to accommodate my child's learning needs. I appreciate his kind spirit and willingness to teach without frustration. To teach, you must love what you do and Mr. James has a love for math; its shows though and though.
