"American Sign Language Tutor"
I am a Junior with a 3.8 GPA at Baker College of Flint's Interpreter Training Program (ITP). In addition to taking ASL classes at Baker, I also took Sign Language courses in my high school years at Oakland Community College and through private lessons with a certified ASL interpreter. I have successfully completed two of three internships in the program (240 hours) and have had much experience in the community, and in learning ASL. Since I was a freshman in high school, I have been learnin... ... More
Jenny is a great tutor! She is very enthusiastic and her knowledge extensive. She makes the student feel comfortable and at the same time makes learning fun. She has original study tips, which can help the student's memory and test anxiety. I would highly recommend her! We are so glad we were able to obtain her as a tutor. I can not say enough good things about Jenny. If you are fortunate enough to hire her, you will be glad you did!

"NYU MBA Offers English Writing & Editorial Skills"
I love standardized tests. OK, that's not true - but I do love humor and incorporate that into my practice plans. The caveat: I'm NOT a 360 tutor. I can ONLY help you with the: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Correction & Critical Reasoning sections. Math is not my friend. If it is your friend and you bring your half of your brain, I'll bring mine. ... More

My fifth-grade daughter generally does well in all of her subjects, but Saxon math has been very problematic for her. When I searched for a tutor, I was drawn to Joan R. from the start. Joan's profile explains that she has significant experience as a homeschooling mom with a variety of subjects, including teaching Saxon math, and that her approach is to make the student comfortable with learning.
Joan has been a blessing. Just hearing the quiet voices and sometimes even giggles(!) from my daughter in the dining room, is such a relief after months and months of mom and daughter agonizing through homework. With Joan's patient, step-by-step guidance through the math problems and her encouragement and reinforcement when my daughter does have a concept down already, we are seeing improvements in our daughter's confidence and less anxiety with test-taking. After her last test, instead of "Mom, I'm so stupid at math," I heard "I think I did ok!"
We plan to continue with Joan over the summer in order to focus in on areas of difficulty and to strengthen our daughter's basic skills in preparation for the next level of Saxon math. Our hope is to stay with Joan through sixth grade and beyond.
I highly recommend Joan R. as a tutor. She is a wonderful match for my daughter and I would not hesitate to use her for other subjects as well.

"Successful Homeschooling Mother"
As a dedicated homeschooling mother, I am knowledgeable in and have success teaching a wide range of subjects. Since I have been teaching my own children on a one-on-one basis for the past fifteen years, I am thoroughly familiar with this type of instruction. I am most familiar with the foundations of elementary and middle school education - English, phonics, grammar, reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary and math. Public speaking is also a skill I can teach. I have the enthusiasm an... ... More
I had selected three tutors to try out for my very first tutoring session ever. Jennifer was the first one to respond to my emails and set up a time to meet. From the first day/session I had with her, we clicked and I knew she was going to be my tutor! Jennifer is a wonderful person who wants to make sure you, the student, are understanding your material. I never had a problem trying to contact her, whether it was by phone or by email, she always responded. I have always struggled with math my entire life and have never been able to pull above a C in class. I was horrible on exams, I didn't know how to study and would attempt the homework and then just push it aside when I couldn't figure something out. After the first few meetings with Jennifer, I felt more confident with my homework. The more we met on a regular basis, the more I was able to understand my homework and improve on my test scores. The biggest accomplishment for me was actually passing my math courses with B's!! I was so excited!! Jennifer helped me through 2 semesters of college math for elementary teachers and I hope to be able to use her in the future too. I would highly recommend Jennifer to any of my family, friends or even strangers! I can't thank her enough for helping me...I'm proud to say, I was even able to help my friend the other day with stuff I learned last winter without having to look it up!!
