"Reading, English, and German Tutor Specializing in Test Prep"

Throughout my college experience at a small liberal arts school, I have taken on teaching positions related to both English and German. My favorite moments have been working with motivated students one-on-one, because I feed off of their enthusiasm to learn. It's always incredible to see the look on someone's face when they have a breakthrough and understand something we've been working on. I have worked with students from the elementary level to the college level, and it's always exciting to... ... More

"Former High School and Elementary Principal for English Tutoring"

I have worked with students for 22 years. My experience ranges from 5K to Seniors. My first teaching experience was teaching 5K. I loved it and loved to see those little ones learn to read at such an early age. After 5 years of teaching 5K, I moved to the other end of the spectrum and taught juniors and seniors college-level writing. I had very high standards for my students and, as I've always seen them do, they rose to the standards. Many times after graduating and attending college, ... ... More

When we realized that my nephew may have a learning disorder, we started our search for help. Since he is in a small private school which doesn't provide special education or evaluation, we had to look elsewhere. On WyzAnt, I found Ms. E. after I read her detailed profile with credential and personal examples. After my initial contact, she also provided a reference for me. That gave me assurance that I am working with a professional. Ms. E. worked with my nephew patiently and gave him thorough evaluation. She also generated a report to help us and the school understand my nephew's condition. With her help, now my nephew is becoming more open and beginning to study more efficiently.

I am a retired medical professional and educational therapist. The combination of educational training mixed with my neurological background has given me a unique set of skills and experience with which to work with students in this arena. I will provide a comprehensive evaluation of your student, provide you with a written report, and attend IEP meetings as needed. I have thoroughly enjoyed the work I have done over the years and have enabled students with various learning difficulties achie... ... More

JoAnn has been working with our second grade daughter on reading for the last 3 weeks. I have been so impressed with her professionalism and knowledge. She has a structured plan each week and has been able to identify the areas where my child needs help and tailor her lessons to meet those needs. JoAnn is a highly experienced teacher who is equally patient and kind. I feel fortunate to have found such a jewel!

He is very patient. My daughter struggles with ADHD and mood issues and he is very understanding. Learning French is less important than the importance of her talking to a teacher and learning during the lesson without the pressure of homework.
Thanks for tutoring me on stress, personality psychology, and social psychology, Seyle's general adaptation syndrome, some trait theories of personality psych (like Costa & McCrae's Big Five), heritability, reliability and validity, compliance strategies like the foot-in-the-door and door-in-the-face techniques, Rosenthal and Jacobsen's study on the self-fulfilling prophecy (called Pygmalion in the Classroom), and the difference between stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination.
