Paul was amazing with our daughter. She had to make a speech in front of 2,400 people for graduation. With Paul's assistance, she prepared, rehearsed, edited and rehearsed again until she had it right and felt confident enough to present. The date came and she hit a home run! She felt real good with the way Paul worked with her and ensured she had the right tools to perform.
Paul is patient, caring, respectful and goes the extra step to ensure the student is getting all the input needed to perform the duties as expected.
I would recommend his expertise, especially if the parents are removed from the goal as we did. Our input would not work being the parents.

"Published writer and accomplished researcher, teacher, and editor"
To Students and Parents:
Although I'd be delighted to work with students who are high school age or older, I particularly enjoy working with adults to help them refine and polish their writing skills, prepare for presentations, and read with deeper understanding and comprehension.
To my work with students I bring years of experience as a high school English teacher, a published writer, and a magazine editor. My tutoring approach is straightforward, practical, and pragmatic: good writing i... ... More
I have really appreciated Nathan's willingness to think deeply about how to help my 11th grade son with his writing assignments, and more fundamentally, with figuring out how to master this intellectual challenge. Nathan goes beyond getting the task done and wants his students to have the tools to tackle the kinds of thinking and writing that they will need in college and even graduate school with intellectual integrity. Nathan recognizes that the technical skills for writing that are taught in school do not work for everyone and that at this stage, a student needs to develop his own system with some self awareness about it so that it can become a personal strategy for tackling writing tasks in college and a career. Sometimes the process seems slow (we benefit from longer, more frequent sessions) but Nathan is more of a coach than just a homework helper. Nathan is very smart, totally present, on time always, persistent and understanding.

I specialize in moving you from where you are to where you want to be. My style is a whole-life approach to learning. That is all. If I am familiar with it, I can teach you. In most cases, if I don't know it, I can teach myself and help you improve. My experience is that learning is both simple and pleasurable when you approach it with the right mind.

As a history teacher, tutor and instructional aide, I have guided my students to learn course content, but also to become overall better students. I emphasize improving organizational and study skills to create a more permanent solution to academic challenges. I also focus my learning activities around concepts and skills to build understanding, rather than focusing simply on rote knowledge.
Anyone and everyone can understand history. At its most basic, history is about relationships. We all... ... More

Shannon started tutoring my daughter, a high school junior, this past spring, in English and Chemistry. He rapidly assessed the course work, areas she struggled with, and was very effective In moving her work forward, such that she improved more than a full letter grade in English, and a full grade in Chemistry and went into final exams with confidence. Shannon is excellent at literature analysis, writing mechanics, vocabulary - and his teaching style is creative and tailored to the student. He gives lots of practical tips As to how to move forward even when the subject topic is not your favorite. He's also excellent in Chemistry again, assessing both the coursework required and teaching specific concepts as well as how to approach the material. Shannon is punctual, realistic and positive in his approach, and makes every effort to be flexible with appointment times and provide the tutoring time needed. He really helped my student get back on track and end her school year successfully!
