With his firm, quiet way and sense of humor, Jim guided our shy, ADD son to pass his Calculus final with flying colors. Jim really understands Calculus and how to get the material across. He immediately responded to phone, text, or emails. My only regret is that we did not seek Jim's help sooner, as this would have increased our son's year-long comprehension and grades.

"Physics (and math) are fun, really"
Unlike many of the tutors that appear on this site, I an not a professional teacher. I have, however, been a tutor for many years. I got my start, quite by accident, while a physics teaching assistant at the University of California. My job was to teach a freshman physics lab course. Most of the students were able to do the lab work but had problems using calculus to do their physics and math homework. One student nailed the issue as similar to taking a french literature course while trying ... ... More

I could not have gotten through this class without Toni... She is a far better teacher than the one teaching the Masters Class; Design Analysis at the College of Brockport.

"Toni, a tutor equally at home in Humanities and Sciences."
Not so long ago the goal of education was to shape the thinking of younger generations so that, with solid background knowledge, they could, in turn, add wisdom to the common store. Since reasoning, interpretative, and problem solving skills are needed across the spectrum, different disciplines were interwoven and 'classics' -that is, the common pool of knowledge that had proved valuable and fertile over time- highly respected and heavily studied. All that has changed, in a misguided effort ... ... More

I'm a graduate of RPI with a degree in Biochemistry/Biophysics. I have strong interest in public health and public policy. I am enrolled for my Masters in Public Health at SUNY Albany online after recently moving to Rochester.
My strengths are in the physical sciences and math, but my English skills are also very strong. I have two years of substitute teaching experience, grades K-12, including long term placements in math, particularly algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus. I have been tutori... ... More

Gary is so incredibly brilliant in so many areas that it simply astounds you. He is kind, good humored, and very encouraging, and has made huge, huge strides with our son. Our son is trying to bring up his ACT score from a very low score. Gary has helped him in Math, Science, and English & Reading. He has taught him time saving 'tricks' that enable the student to finish the test accurately, and in a timely manner. Our son has scored high on all areas now with practice ACT's. He has gained so much confidence now, when before he had pretty bad test anxiety. Our son has such admiration for him and told me he was the smartest man he has ever known!

The English section of the ACT contains some tough passages, and it asks students to identify and correct a number of common writing errors. Although good writing is partly a matter of art, the ACT almost entirely ignores that fact and focuses instead on the “mechanical†skills of writing, such as spotting dangling modifiers or pronouns with an ambiguous antecedents. Whether you want to raise your score dramatically, or just figure out how to eke out a few more points, I'll help. Not only have I taught these skills to hundreds of high-school and adult students, I've also published ... More

Lawrence was just the tutor I needed for Diff Eq. He knew how to relate the problems to my engineering field. He was very flexible with his time and easy to reach. He was patient with me on the more difficult problems and also on the easier problems that just needed a quick review. If another course comes up that I will needed a tutor, and Lawrence is available, I would definately use him again.
