8185 ESL Tutors ( English as a second language )
Whether you are looking to improve your English to attain a native skill level, or are just starting out with learning English as a second language, you could benefit from some private ESL tutoring. English is a difficult language to master especially because of the various dialects ad the difficult grammar and syntax rules that are involved. Often students feel as though the textbook English they learn in class is very different from what is spoken around them in the United States. Often ESL tutors can help you to get to grips with these discrepancies through additional ESL lessons and English coaching. Take a look at the tutor profiles below and pick the tutor who will best serve your ESL needs.

"Patient and Knowledgeable English Tutor"

I worked as a Computer Programmer/Analyst in the federal government for 30 years. Although, I worked on a workforce improvement team, often presenting modules to co-workers, I would have never predicted that I would become an English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor. Now it seems like a natural progression because I love working with and helping people. I've taught ESOL to adults for 14 years in a college setting. My students have included adults from Latino, African, Asian, and ... ... More

"Post Graduate French Tutor Experienced in Building Confident Students"

I am interested in helping non-native speakers of English with their English conversation skills. During the years I lived in Paris, France, I helped five native speakers of French to improve their English language skills. While my interaction with two of my students was based on more formal study methods, three of my students increased their knowledge and understanding of the English language primarily through conversation. ... "ESL, business and academic English, TOEFL, IELTS"

My journey as an English teacher began in Peru, just 10 days after graduating cum laude from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in linguistics. For the next 5 years I taught English as a second language in Florida and Washington State. During that time I taught students of all ages and skill levels, and I enjoyed learning about their diverse cultures, religions, and languages. My philosophy for teaching is to allow the student to have the maximum time in each session to prod... ... More

I have worked with children with autism and other cognitive challenges, especially. Personally, I am a mother of 3 and grandmother of 2. I live in Greeley, CO. I love to incorporate Play with Teaching; if my tutoring is considered a chore, who benefits from that? Before attaining my Master's, I was an English Teacher. I have a... ... More

"Orton-Gillingham Reading Tutor"

I have been a teacher and school counselor in a public school system for over 18 years. I have worked with families and children since graduating from college in 1989 with my Masters degree in Education. In my positions with the schools, I have advocated for my students to receive the extra services they may need to be successful in school, as well as later in life. Due to my love of reading and wanting to help children read, I became certified in the Orton-Gillingham Reading Program. I tut... ... More

"Ph.D. Chemist Available for Tutoring at All Levels"

I love science and, in particular chemistry, and more specifically, organic chemistry. It has always come very naturally to me. It is noteworthy that there are may people who can master organic chemistry if they put their minds to it however, that does not mean that they are necessarily effective at imparting their knowledge of this complex subject to others. This is a key differentiator between myself and the "rest of the teachers." I obtained my B.S. in chemistry from Penn State in 1996... ... More

Joey is an exceptional standardized test tutor. I highly recommend him. I found Joey after an exhaustive search for help with the PSAT/SAT/ACT for my son. My son's school recommended a large national test-prep company, but after investigating that option, we didn't think it was the right fit. My student already understands these tests and has some experience taking them; he needed a person to get him to the "next level" and not waste time going over basic review/prep. Joey provides fast-paced and completely personalized instruction. He first diagnoses where a student is along the spectrum of readiness for these tests. He zones in on problem areas and has materials ready to strengthen these areas of weakness. My son has enjoyed working with Joey and says their sessions have definitely increased his confidence for the upcoming tests. I appreciate so many things about having Joey work with my son. Joey is extremely intelligent, energetic, and dedicated; he knows what's he's doing and will provide concise, clear instruction; he has a good website where he exchanges files, keeps the tutoring materials organized, etc.; he doesn't waste time during online sessions (you will get your money's worth). I'd recommend Joey for help with your student's test prep in any circumstances, but particularly if your child is scoring towards the top end of the scoring range and he/she wants that extra boost. Our family appreciates Joey's assistance and feels it has been very beneficial to our son.
Liz is an excellent tutor. She has a lot of patience to teach. Her teaching method is good. Before she started the class she planned everything. I am glad to have a tutor like Liz.
My daughters have been meeting with Denise for several months- in the subjects of reading (5th grade) and math (3rd grade). Denise is experienced and knowledgeable in both subjects. She tailors her teaching method differently for both girls based on their strengths. I appreciate Denise's detailed feedback after all lessons. Her flexibility and accessibility are great for my family with its ever changing schedule.
I have worked with Delois for awhile and I can honestly say she is a phenomenal tutor. She kept me focused and help me develop a plan to help me achieve my goal. She highlighted what I was doing right and what needed improvement. She was always full of support and a kind word whenever it is needed. She uses power points, websites, flash cards, whatever works best and helps the information stick. She helped me focus and analysis each question that was in front of me. She helped me build my critical thinking skills and self confidence with each session. She helped me achieve my goal of passing the NCLEX-RN exam. Without her help I'm not sure where I would be today. It was my 5th attempt at the NCLEX. But with her help and support I made it the last time. She is one of the most kind, generous, intelligent, and loving woman I have ever met. If you need help studying for the NCLEX I highly suggest you try talking to and working with Delois.
