8185 ESL Tutors ( English as a second language )
Whether you are looking to improve your English to attain a native skill level, or are just starting out with learning English as a second language, you could benefit from some private ESL tutoring. English is a difficult language to master especially because of the various dialects ad the difficult grammar and syntax rules that are involved. Often students feel as though the textbook English they learn in class is very different from what is spoken around them in the United States. Often ESL tutors can help you to get to grips with these discrepancies through additional ESL lessons and English coaching. Take a look at the tutor profiles below and pick the tutor who will best serve your ESL needs.

"I value students' success, tutoring music, math, english, & more."

I have been passionate about teaching since I was first asked to tutor a fellow kindergartner in counting and math skills. I love to show people how things work, breaking down work into simple steps, while guiding them to utilize such processes and critical thinking in applying acquired knowledge to new problems and concepts. My work with youth programs since 2008 and experience in tutoring, along with my studies as a psychology major (Psychology Bachelor of Arts, UCSC), have given me val... ... More

"13 Years ESL Teaching Experience Is Yours!"

Hi, my name is Bryan. I started my higher education in 1986. In 1988, I earned an associates of arts degree from Texas State Technical Institute, Waco. I spent more than ten years in the art business doing graphic design and sign work. I enjoyed the art business, but I would often think about some experiences I had while in art school. I had one professor who would often ask me to spend time with certain students to help them better understand how to complete the technical art projects. The f... ... More

Kate has done a wonderful job balancing basic conversations and fun exercises with some of the more difficult grammatical elements. After each lesson I not only have a better grasp of the language, but I also feel more confident speaking. She also goes above and beyond by providing her own worksheets and other resources, so I can continue to learn at my own pace between lessons.

Emad is fast, accurate, and a very pleasant person with whom to work. As a nonprofit organization we highly recommend his services. It is our plan to hire him in the future when we organize our mission trip to the Middle East/Northern Africa. Thank you, Emad!
I have been tutored by perhaps 5 Spanish tutors in the past, and Suzanne is without a doubt the best. She is the first "formally-trained" Spanish teacher I've had, and I never realized how big of a difference it would make. The fact that Spanish isn't her first language is also a plus, believe it or not. All of my prior Spanish teachers spoke Spanish as their native language, and they would sometimes find it hard to compare/contrast some of the more difficult concepts of the language - sometimes a "compared-to-English" approach is really helpful. She is perfectly fluent, though, so it's best of both worlds. I'd highly recommend her.
My son has worked with Dorothy for the past two school years. She is excellent and I would highly recommend her. She probes, (sometimes cajoles) and truly teaches. He leaves each lesson with not just how to do a particular assignment, but rather with something much more important- how to further his thinking. She is always prepared and takes an interest in his development.
Christopher is tutoring our son in college Chemistry. He seems to really know his stuff and has a very positive and pleasant demeanor - although we have just had a few lessons and it is too early to tell what the impact will be, we feel confident that Christopher is providing a great reinforcement and recap of the lectures so our son can succeed. Glad we found him!
