My daughter worked closely with Brendan over two weeks. He was always well prepared, prompt and patient. He had excellent command of the two pieces of literature about which she was writing two short papers. He carefully supported her reading and thinking to show her how to structure her imaginative arguments.
The most important element of his tutoring style is that he provided support for her own writing, while patiently guiding her to organize and structure her work to meet intermediate deadlines. She met important final deadlines with his skillful guidance.
I am completely satisfied with Brendan's tutoring knowledge and motivational skill. He is a lovely person who is low key and flexible. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He was truly superb.

Hi, my name is Brendan. I am a high school teacher in Fairfax, Virginia.
From 1997 - 2001 I did my undergraduate coursework at St. John's College, a small liberal-arts school with twin campuses in Annapolis and Santa Fe, New Mexico. (I spent two years at each campus.) St. John's is a unique school that follows what is sometimes called the "Great Books" program. All classes are discussion-based, and students work their way through source texts that have laid the fou... ... More

"Author and Former Professor"
I have an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College and an English BA from University of Mississippi. My strength in teaching is finding the best approach to an individual student, which is why I prefer tutoring over classroom instruction. Unlike the classroom, my entire focus is on the individual student and their educational needs. I feel that this is the most effective way to learn new or difficult material.
My previous experience in teaching includes creative writing workshops at th... ... More

Deise is very methodical and works very hard in preparing the material for every Portuguese class. She is very patient when it comes to explaining concepts that are difficult to grasp and provides numerous examples of tense and gender forms. I am learning a lot and would strongly recommend her to anyone that has to learn Portuguese in a relatively short time frame as I do.

Carrie, saved my grade. As simple as that. I was completely lost in my calculus class at UCLA and she recapped the entire first half of the quarter for me. She pointed out the details that i needed to know, we did practice problems, she reviewed my homework and my quiz. Along with that, she not only helped me finish the practice midterm my teacher emailed us but she made another practice midterm on her own time. Carrie is very flexible, I can text/call her a few days before I need help and she's available and works with my schedule. I aced my midterm, and I'm seeing her again in two days! The most important thing is that we don't waste time, she isn't slow at helping me, she reviews the material before the session so we get a lot done in a little amount of time.
