"20 Years Experience Teaching English and Writing"
I have twenty years' experience teaching English in every environment and with every kind of student imaginable. I have taught in a village school in Jamaica, UNC-Asheville, North Buncombe High School, the Juvenile Evaluation Center and at Christ School, a preparatory boarding school in Asheville. My teaching style is experiential as I believe every student has the capacity to connect with literature and to write very well, and I enjoy showing a student how he or she does this naturally. I be... ... More

Joyce is a very patient tutor with my son who struggles with dyslexia. In just a few lessons my son was able to learn more than he had with several lessons with past tutors. Anyone who has a child who is struggling with reading and dyslexia can tell you how heartbreaking it is watching your child go through this. Joyce has given our son back the confidence he needs to show him that he can succeed. We are so happy we found her and are looking forward to seeing him advance significantly in this area.

"Published Author Excels at Coaching Young Writers"
Twice during my teaching experience I've had students diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. My research on the subject revealed Asperger's as a mild form of Asperger's that is often mistakenly seen as a personality disorder. Asperger's does however share with the many manifestations of autism a difficulty in communicating, especially in matters of emotion. Physically, Aspergers people, (generally male) may flap their hands when excited and tend to walk on tip toe. It is not yet known why this is so.
Both of my students were male and in their early teen years. Both liked to play video games and ... More

I am very much pleased with Mary's patience and interaction with 7 year old. My daughter is very much enjoying her Latin lessons and looks forward to them.
Teaching a younger student via Skype can be a bit challenging but Mary has made the process enjoyable for her. She is starting to open up and interact with her.
I look forward to watching my daughter embrace the Latin language.

"Serious successful tutoring in Latin"
Hello! I am a Latin teacher, turned mom. In my first six years of teaching I developed a dynamic Latin middle school program, inspired students to love Latin through precise and creative teaching methods, devoted my planning time to tutoring individual students who struggled in Latin, and led students to be highly successful on the AP Latin Literature, AP Vergil and the AP Latin test for five years. After my first child was born I switched to primarily online tutoring so as to be at home wi... ... More

Ellen has provided a great deal of help to my dyslexic daughter. She is very patient and has provided assistance not only in reading, but math as well. My daughter's self confidence has improved since she has started her sessions with Ellen. Ellen understands children struggling, really listened to our concerns and is always easy to reach. We are very pleased with our experience.

"Education/Learning Difference Specialist/Study Skills Expert"
All students, from elementary to post secondary, can realize their potential and reach their goals, given the right tools and strategies. This concept is the basis of my work with students- discovering their strengths and interests to motivate and support their learning. Developing study strategies and activities that teach AND reinforce their studies and mastery of a particular concept.
However, I cannot make this happen without a partner who is hopefully, motivated! Motivated or not so... ... More

"N.C. Certified French Teacher / Looking to Tutor French"
I have 17 years of teaching experience at both the High School and Middle School levels.
I am a great motivator and I am an expert at making the learning of a foreign language fun.
The key to learning a language is repetition----hearing the same words over and over but in a different manner. To achieve this, I use a lot of visuals in my instruction along with questions and answers. I also utilize songs (when relative to what is being taught, kinesthetic activities and written follow-up wo... ... More
