A recent graduate of The University of South Carolina-Upstate, I now work in the automotive industry for the Upstate of South Carolina. In my position, I have successfully demonstrated both verbal and written skills along with strengthening my understanding of the German language. In my free time, I enjoy reading foreign literature, American modernist short stories, adolescent novels, and occasionally, a graphic novel or two. Some of my favorite authors include F.Scott Fitzgerald, Toni Morr... ... More

I took the GMAT recently, and attempted to study for it on my own using three different study guides that were loaded with examples, practice problems, and methods. Despite my self-inflicted slavery to my studying, I did not do anywhere near as well as I had hoped I would on the Quantitative section of the test. However, within a few minutes of sitting down with John, I was learning alternative, easier ways to find the answers to problems that had plagued me from Day 1 of studying on my own. I also found myself doing a great deal of material mentally rather than writing it all out. John's teaching methods pulled me out of the black hole of complication brought about by my Kaplan study guides and showed me a simpler, more time-efficient way of finding answers without having an anxiety attack of second-guessing. He's very knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and great at building understanding and confidence. Great tutor!

"Patient, effective tutor for your most difficult subject"

ADD is not a disease or a defect, and people with ADD are not disabled. They are often frustrated, sometimes embarrassed, and they can become depressed because they are labeled as lazy or irresponsible and their best efforts are judged "not good enough." They live in a world which expects them to act in ways which are difficult for them to manage. Coping with ADD (or ADHD) is a matter of learning habits that most people don’t have to learn, of thinking about and doing things which most people don’t have to think about or do. It's not easy, but nothing worthwhile is easy. The ... More

My son had his first session and feels very comfortable with her style of conveying the lessons. I'm seeing some eagerness to learn and that to me is excellent! Also, Mary gave feedback on his strengths and weaknesses, and suggestion on how to improve. Thanks for your patience, and ability to tutor in all the GED subject areas!
I am so glad to have found Deise! I have taken her Portuguese classes for a few months now and have just recently taken a cooking class from her. I have so much more confidence and understand so much of the language now! She works hard to tailor the classes to my learning style and they are the highlight of my week. Her heart is all in teaching Portuguese and it will really show in how much you learn! Try her cooking class too- she's a brilliant self-taught cook and I have some impressive Brazilian culinary skills now thanks to Deise! I'm beyond satisfied to have studied with her.
Lauren can always find an easy way to explain and help me to pronounce the difficult words. She is very patient and professional. I picked up a training material from my work which has a lot of longer sentences and common words and phrases related to my work. I read the whole material and she was only listening and taking notes. Once I completed reading, she pointed out the words that I didn’t pronounce correctly and helped me practiced these words in the sentences. Then we also practiced stressing important words in the longer sentences and thought groups which make me sound more like a native speaker. At end, she read and I recorded her reading so I can listen and practice by my own. This way of working worked very well with my needs and objectives, I can apply the learning to my work right away. This is my last lesson this year due to the Holiday schedule; I cannot wait to work with Lauren after the New Year!
