"The unreHERsed Educator"

When asked the question "what makes a great tutor," I immediately begin to reflect on my childhood learning experience. The makings of a great tutor starts with honesty and being relatable. A great tutor teaches from the core of heart and aims to connect the gaps in his/her scholar's learning capabilities. A great tutor lends grace to their scholars and becomes the mirror reflection of hope that in life you can accomplish anything you set your mind to in spite of setbacks. Words like pers... ... More

Barbara tutors my daughter for algebra and my daughter's grades have increased greatly. My daughter says that Barbara teaches her the math in terms she can understand. Barbara is very knowledgeable, patient and really down to earth. She really cares about her students and how they do on their tests. She is also very accommodating to people's schedules which is important for kids involved in extracurricular activities. Her experience in teaching, knowledge of the subject matter plus the rapport she has with my daughter surpass any other tutor that we have tried and the proof is in the grades that my daughter has been getting. Do not hesitate to try a lesson with Barbara. Update on Dec 21, 2012- My daughter had her test today after meeting with Barbara last evening and scored a 99!! This helped her confidence level greatly!!

Edward is hands down the best tutor I've ever had. He comes very well prepared with instruction and specific practice problems for the exam, in my case SOA Exam P. With his clear exam and tutoring experience, he even anticipates a lot of my questions, no matter how difficult. He has complete mastery of the exam material and explains concepts very clearly and thoroughly. I will certainly be back for Exam FM!

Nate is an excellent tutor. I am a complete beginner in Arabic and he´s being extremely helpful introducing me to the language in a very natural way. He is not fixed in the sense that he completely tailors his lessons to the student and it feels like a very personalized teaching mode. He is very helpful with any question and he will give me some additional material or help regarding the subject of my questions. He also knows how to explain more complex concepts in a very understandable way. I like that his lessons are not just focused on one aspect of the language (for example, vocabulary), but he provides tools to learn grammar, vocabulary, conversation, and even some cultural aspects; this approach makes learning much more natural and enjoyable. In addition, he is very reliable, always punctual and responds quickly to questions. I would highly recommend Nate as a tutor.
Our office contacted Bob after inheriting an Access database we barely understood. He is so knowledgeable, and after spending time with us to learn how and what it was used for, he put together some different plans to move forward. He was patient and encouraging in showing us how to make changes/additions and why things worked the way they did. Bob is so personable and easy to learn from, it really boosted my confidence with Access. For the first time I feel comfortable moving around in the database. We all really enjoyed working with him, and know right where to find him when we need him again!
