I would highly recommend Harvey as a tutor for high school age students. He is currently tutoring my daughter in math/science for ACT improvement and college readiness. Harvey works on the specific areas my student has trouble with. He is prepared with examples and works through various types of problems at each session - some ACT prep, some homework help, some general skills. Harvey is flexible in the materials to be covered and in scheduling. He is well-educated in the subject matter, prompt and reliable. It is a pleasure working with him.

"An effective teacher with a sense of humor!"

My experience with discrete math includes design of logic circuits using Boolean algebra for encoding and decoding of binary states in electronics. I also designed an artificial intelligence program for playing Black Jack as part of a college course project. I later studied the application of truth tables to analyze digital electronics faults in audio equipment. ... More

We have been very pleasantly surprised by Annette's approach in teaching our 6th grade son. She was very organized from the time we interviewed her. She assessed the way he learns, she harnessed his attention and engaged him in a manner that left him feeling good about himself and wanting to learn and prove to himself he can do more!

"Teaming up for Academic Success"

Hello parents and students! Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to tell you a little about myself. School can be an exhilarating as well as a downright frustrating endeavor to embark on, particularly when the subject is difficult and the obstacles seem insurmountable. It is for this reason that I realize the gravity of trust that is placed in the hands of a tutor to provide some much needed insight, tools and techniques for learning, and sometimes just a person with whom to commiserate... ... Hello! I wanted to give everyone a brief description of myself and my approach to tutoring. I recently graduated from The University of Texas at Tyler with a major in History. However, despite my major, I was exposed to numerous academic fields, including English, Political Science/International Affairs, Research and Thesis Writing, and numerous social sciences, just to name a few. I have also been employed at a local college for several years, which has been beneficial in teaching me the oth... ... More

"Tutor for Hire in East Texas"

Hello, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983. I've also been lucky enough to travel across southern Africa, Central America, North America and the United Kingdom. Two interests of mine are game theory and probabilities, which dovetail with my hobbies of chess, poker and board games. I believe the most effective way to teach is to involve the student with the curriculum by being interactive rather than merely presenting the material to be survey... ... More

Russ was excellent in helping me to understand several concepts by explaining them differently than my math instructor. He also assisted me in solving various math formulas, and facilitated my understanding of those solutions. He was very patient, and clear in his explanations. He was also very easy to contact, quick to respond, and scheduled a session with me the following day.
My first lesson with Marie was fairly good and I thought I had explained appropriately what I wanted to learn in regards to French. I've had many years of reading/writing French but my ability to speak/listen is as a beginner. I explained to her several times that, for awhile, I needed a teacher who would speak French slowly until I was able to recognize French phonetics. Also, I needed to learn about French phonetics as I had minimal knowledge. Then we could gradually reach a normal rate of speaking. But she continued to speak to me very fast during our lesson so I was frustrated and I didn't feel that I was learning what I wanted. I think, academically, Marie is a great teacher. If someone has no French knowledge or wants to concentrate on book learning and being able to read/write French proficiently, she would be a good choice of a tutor. But I've already had years of that type of teaching. I want to learn how to speak French naturally so I'm comfortable when I visit France. I'm a piano teacher so I recognize that a teacher must personalize lessons to fit the student. And I think she was trying to do that but she really didn't understand what I was trying to convey and what I want from French lessons, even though I explained it to her several times.
