"Fully Certified Social Studies Teacher Available to Help Your Student"

Hello! I wanted to give everyone a brief description of myself and my approach to tutoring. I recently graduated from The University of Texas at Tyler with a major in History. However, despite my major, I was exposed to numerous academic fields, including English, Political Science/International Affairs, Research and Thesis Writing, and numerous social sciences, just to name a few. I have also been employed at a local college for several years, which has been beneficial in teaching me the oth... ... More

"Hey! Math can be fun when you understand it!"

I am a current calculus tutor for the university I'm attending! I am a senior mechanical engineering major with a minor in math. I also was a piano teacher before I started college. Helping others learn is extremely rewarding personally and i enjoy helping people who want to learn. I think learning is a beautiful thing, and studying is not too bad when done correctly! Let me share what I've learned with you throughout my high school and college experience. It's not only about studying hard, b... ... More

We have been very pleasantly surprised by Annette's approach in teaching our 6th grade son. She was very organized from the time we interviewed her. She assessed the way he learns, she harnessed his attention and engaged him in a manner that left him feeling good about himself and wanting to learn and prove to himself he can do more!

"Teaming up for Academic Success"

Hello parents and students! Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to tell you a little about myself. School can be an exhilarating as well as a downright frustrating endeavor to embark on, particularly when the subject is difficult and the obstacles seem insurmountable. It is for this reason that I realize the gravity of trust that is placed in the hands of a tutor to provide some much needed insight, tools and techniques for learning, and sometimes just a person with whom to commiserate... ... I would highly recommend Harvey as a tutor for high school age students. He is currently tutoring my daughter in math/science for ACT improvement and college readiness. Harvey works on the specific areas my student has trouble with. He is prepared with examples and works through various types of problems at each session - some ACT prep, some homework help, some general skills. Harvey is flexible in the materials to be covered and in scheduling. He is well-educated in the subject matter, prompt and reliable. It is a pleasure working with him.

"An effective teacher with a sense of humor!"

My experience with discrete math includes design of logic circuits using Boolean algebra for encoding and decoding of binary states in electronics. I also designed an artificial intelligence program for playing Black Jack as part of a college course project. I later studied the application of truth tables to analyze digital electronics faults in audio equipment. ... More

"The "Zen" Math Tutor"

I am the "zen" math tutor. I bring a very calm, relaxed approach to mathematics, to alleviate any anxiety the student may associate with math. I developed the "zen" approach to math while in college and it helped me tremendously with the anxiety that I often encountered before and during test-taking. Before each lesson, we start with some basic breathing exercises. Using calm voices and relaxing to the fullest extent, we create a better learning environment. I graduated from the Universit... ... I am very lucky to have Yasushi-san as my tutor in Japanese. On our first meeting, we discussed my goals and I showed him my books. I explained to him that after meeting my relatives in Kagoshima and Hiroshima, Japan for the very first time last spring, I fell in love with them as well as the country. When I visit Japan again, I would like to be able to speak fluently with my relatives. Yasushi-san is originally from Gifu, Japan. This city is located in the middle of Japan and was the site of many fierce battles among the warlords prior to the Edo period. He attended the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut and has been in the United States for over 20 years. He majored in biology and chemistry and currently enjoys tutoring all levels of math. Fortunately for me, he can also teach Japanese. He is a very talented individual who has black belts in both Japanese and Chinese martial arts. This is our present routine: We meet or I telephone him to read a news story written in simple hiragana that is comprised of several paragraphs. Yasushi-san reads it back once I’ve read it so I can listen to the correct pronunciation and phrasing. I ask questions about the vocabulary or we discuss other topics such as Japanese food, customs of Japan, and the historical significance of cities. Some of the articles I’ve read in Japanese have been about stolen bees, a plant explosion, and an avalanche. It has been a wonderful learning experience and I recommend Yasushi-san to anyone interested in supplemental studies in math or Japanese.
We worked on verb conjugation and common Italian expressions. He helped me gain more confidence about the task of learning both written and spoken language.
