In 1978 I earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in German from Lake Forest College, along with a minor in Math. I received a Master of Arts in German Literature from Northwestern University in 1984. I have been in the English as a Second Language/Bi Lingual Dept. of a school in Glen Ellyn, Illinois since 2000. I have initially worked with a Hispanic population, as I speak Spanish fluently. I then had the experience of working with African refugees mainly from Somalia and the Sudan. In addition, I am currently working with Asian refugees from Burma, Nepal and Thailand. I am qualified to teach students with ADD, being a special education teacher, I have had to implement different strategies to help the student stay on task. Students that have various deficits sometimes also have ADD/ADHD, therefore I have written IEPs to specifically address this deficit. One strategy that I used was time on task for a certain amount minutes, break, then repeat, the goal is for the student to eventually be able to stay on task longer over a period of time.
