I'm a homeschooling mother of four, two of whom are school aged. Margaret has been working mostly with my five-year-old while I work with his older brother. She has found creative ways to use the curricula that we have selected, which has helped to keep my very silly, daydreaming, chatty little boy engaged. For example, in his first tutoring session, Margaret had him stand facing her and pretend that they were both mirror images of each other while she demonstrated (in the air) the proper strokes for the letters of the alphabet. She has used mnemonic devices to help him learn to write his numbers correctly. This past week, she brought in two cookie sheets and some flour, and she and my son wrote their phonograms in the flour as he worked to master the sounds that each makes as well as how to write his letters and numbers. Overall, Margaret has been very patient and sweet, and is proving to be a great fit for my little boy. (She'll be working more with my older son in the upcoming weeks, and I'm looking forward to seeing how she gets him excited about his lessons.)

"Homeschool Mom With Strong Language Arts Background"

In my 20 plus years of teaching I have worked with students from elementary to high school level, and even adults with learning deficits, assessing strengths in order to use them to work on weak areas. I believe teaching/learning should be relevant, engaging, as hands-on as possible, measurable and applicable to a person's life and goals. Whether tutoring a remedial student or a gifted student, I am focused on the individual's learning style and goals when structuring tutoring sessions ... ... More

"Get two the heart of it!"

I am a teacher with eighteen years experience in grades one through eight with a love of learning and a passion for life. I have taught all subjects from language and math to physics and art. The real way to learn is to make it fun and break it into the right size pieces for each individual to take in. No child will learn if their mind is not open and opening the mind begins with opening the heart. From there the right skills in an educator can teach a student just about anything. Let me give... ... More

"Math and Reading Tutor"

I've been tutoring kids from elementary on up to college for over 30 years. I love to learn and I love watching kids learn. As a mother of a special ed student. Thus, I know that a one-size-fits most approach doesn't work with many students. It's those unique kids that I want to reach. I've been tutoring math students from middle school on up to college for over thirty years. I taught high school math for awhile until I joined the Air Force. I continued to tutor kids and love finding n... ... More

"Effective Nursing tutor specializing in Test Prep/NCLEX & English"

My love of teaching comes from a life-long career of daily learning, while in the health care profession. While in RN school, I became a L.P.N./L.V.N, and when I passed my NCLEX-RN Exam the first time in 1993, a colleague asked me to take classes together that summer towards our B.S.N.s. I suffered from test anxiety, often entering a final exam with a A or B, only to "blank out" despite the fact that I knew the material well, but I agreed. Well, not only did I complete my B.S.N. while working... ... More
