"Test Prep Expert"

Through high school and college, tutoring was one of the things I excelled at. I graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in 2014 with a BS in Civil Engineering, with honors. From there, I was initially stationed on a ship in Miami, FL where I conducted counter drug operations. My next assignment took me overseas for 13 months, where I resumed tutoring--this time for international and American students living abroad. Upon returning to the United States, I resumed tutoring here. I have... ... More

Elena has been great as a tutor with my grandson, Christopher. She is very patient and demonstrates a great deal of knowledge and skill in working with him. She easily brings out his strengths, addresses his weaknesses in a consciously positive manner, and reinforces his self esteem and self worth. She has all the qualities of care, knowledge and understanding that all teachers should have. As a result, he is already feeling more positive and confident in his math competency and performance. Ms. E. should be cloned for placement in all classrooms.

"Teaching Math for Understanding and Then Some"

As a Mathematics teacher for 9 years, I am the kind of teacher who actually teaches so students learn. For me, it wasn't about getting the right answer but it was more about understanding the material. Even though I taught Math, I would give short answer and essay questions on homework, quizzes and tests. This was to ensure understanding. Was it harder for me to grade? Absolutely. Did it take me longer than it could have? Yes. Why did I do it? Because I cared. Although I can teach m... ... More
