Patty S. started tutoring my eight year old son from the end of August, 2013. When she started, my kid hardly wrote a paragraph. He did not know where to start and what to write. He did not know how to formulate his ideas into words, sentences and then paragraphs. Patty worked with him one word at a time. Organization is her strength. She is organized in her thinking, teaching, scheduling her class, writing her report and checking the assignments. She is a thorough professional in this field. She lays foundation by teaching the kid to choose a topic sentence for the subject matter and encouraging them to formulate 3-5 supporting facts, connect them together with conjunctions and finally wrap it up with a conclusion sentence. Having learned the structure of a paragraph, the kids are then encouraged by Patty, to added meat to the skeleton! She teaches them adjectives by urging them to make a list for each of the five senses of smell, taste, sound, sight and touch. Once kids learns adjectives, she gently urges them to select unique words. She teaches them to revise, edit and check for spelling and grammatical mistakes. Without revealing anymore of her unique techniques, I only like to add that she does all these things, by making the kid feel special and not overwhelmed. I am extremely happy with her, and would continue to engage her for my older son as long as her rates stay affordable. And will do the same with my younger son when he is ready!
