"ESL and Writing Specialist - High School, College, Professional"
My love of teaching stems from my own background as a student. I have been lucky enough to have had some great teachers over the years. These teachers challenged me, believed in me, taught me, and expected great things from me. Their encouragement helped me achieve my own dream of earning a Ph.D. Over the years, I realized that I have the same ability to encourage my students to achieve their best.
When I tutor, I have high expectations of my students, but not ones that are unrealistic... ... More
"ESL Tutor with M.A. and Teaching Experience"
Hi, my name is Jaz! I have always been interested in teaching ESL since my mother took courses to help improve her own English. I find it rewarding to be able to give students, essentially, the gift of expressing their thoughts into words.

I took the GMAT recently, and attempted to study for it on my own using three different study guides that were loaded with examples, practice problems, and methods. Despite my self-inflicted slavery to my studying, I did not do anywhere near as well as I had hoped I would on the Quantitative section of the test. However, within a few minutes of sitting down with John, I was learning alternative, easier ways to find the answers to problems that had plagued me from Day 1 of studying on my own. I also found myself doing a great deal of material mentally rather than writing it all out. John's teaching methods pulled me out of the black hole of complication brought about by my Kaplan study guides and showed me a simpler, more time-efficient way of finding answers without having an anxiety attack of second-guessing. He's very knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and great at building understanding and confidence. Great tutor!

"Patient, effective tutor for your most difficult subject"
ADD is not a disease or a defect, and people with ADD are not disabled. They are often frustrated, sometimes embarrassed, and they can become depressed because they are labeled as lazy or irresponsible and their best efforts are judged "not good enough." They live in a world which expects them to act in ways which are difficult for them to manage. Coping with ADD (or ADHD) is a matter of learning habits that most people don’t have to learn, of thinking about and doing things which most people don’t have to think about or do. It's not easy, but nothing worthwhile is easy. The ... More
