Sy turned out to be a great tutor for my H.S. Junior in Pre-Calc. He was very patient and broke things down in a way that helped her to understand the material. We brought Sy in because our daughter's teacher was concerned about her flunking the course and Sy definitely helped her turn this around. I highly recommend Sy as a tutor.
A year and a half ago, I chose to return to college and finish my Bachelor's degree. I had been away from school for many years. Therefore, I knew I was extremely rusty in the fields of writing, grammar, essay composition, and so on. I'm also dyslexic. Instead of struggling another semester by myself, I made the decision to get a tutor to enlighten my path. Why I didn't do this earlier I don't know. In came Phoebe to set me straight. I have to say this first: the right personality was key for me in choosing a tutor. As an adult, it's not usually easy asking a stranger to reteach you proper punctuation without feeling less smart at the end of a section. I did not want it to feel like a student-teacher scenario, but instead one with two equal-headed people exchanging ideas, methods, and so on in order to learn from one another. I looked at many fantastically qualified people but Phoebe just showed the right dynamic I knew would work with my style of learning. Phoebe is understanding, passionate, and intuitive about the needs of the student, yet she challenges you to explore your mind to find the answers needed. I don't feel self-conscious about my dyslexia with her; it's just seen as a small bump which is easily jumped. I love our meetings because we focus on my subject matter, laying down all my jumbled-up, crazy ideas into a sensible format, understanding the right flow for an amazing paper, and applying my writing style to the writing formats, just to name a few examples. It is important for me to recognize my errors and learn to fix them. Phoebe is helping me develop a high sense of recognition towards my grammar and spelling errors. Through writing and spelling exercises, I am given the tools needed to accomplish this. She has been my tutor for close to a year now and I feel I still want to learn more. Phoebe's bright personality but focused mindset is the right fit for type A to happy-go-lucky personalities.
We are reviewing and learning new math skills. She is knowledgeable, and is able to teach me in a way I can understand. The most important is, she is patient and wants me to succeed. I am appreciative of her. Thanks.
