"NC Certified teacher Reading, AIG, Media"

I am a North Carolina certified teacher and I have been teaching in the NC public system for 16 years. Most of my experience is with kindergarten and first grade students but I have taught students up to 5th grade. I choose tutoring because research shows that students tend to improve with one on one instruction. I also prefer small group instruction so that I may offer a visual hands on personalized approach to learning. I have two children of my own who are different types of learners and I... ... More

"Experienced educator, specializing in Deaf and Hard of Hearing"

I love teaching. I love to see the moment when a student who has been struggling finally makes the connection. I love the challenge of figuring out different ways to explain concepts to help the students reach their "light bulb" moment. Nothing is a satisfying as seeing a student understand and to watch their self confidence improve. I studied French in college, and achieved fluency. I have maintained my skills by reading French language books and news sites and conversing in French whenev... ... More

Anne was careful to take her time with my son. She was very personable and well versed in regards to the SAT Reading/Writing sections. She gave my son things to work on at home and requested that he bring previous tests, essays and work performed at home to the next meeting. My son was excited to tell me all about his first tutoring session with Anne, and told me that he learned more with her than with previous study methods. Anne is excellent in helping to prepare for the SAT Reading/Writing sections.

"Does Secondary or College English Remind You of the Dentist?"

Sometimes I feel like the dentist when people don't like English. Dentists have too many drills, boring preparation, a list of annoying things to fix, can make you feel self conscious and are not very popular.... What if I told you I didn't like grammar either...until I understood it is all logical. Once I understood the balance and logic in a sentence, the rules, even the dreaded diagramming, made sense. It is so much easier when you understand it and are freed from just memorizing rules... ... More
