"Teaching authentic French with excellence (experience and passion) "

The main points of my experience, qualifications and foreign language teaching philosophy: 1. Professional experience: I have been working in education as a French teacher for 40 years (18 of which in the US and the last 12 in California). A highlight of my teaching career is the professional experience and training at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, CA, one of the best foreign language schools in the world with an intensive, proficiency oriented, language... ... This was my daughter's first session with Nicole. Nicole took the time to review her prior class work (at Nicole's request, we sent it to her ahead of time) and was prepared to help her with specific instances of what she was doing wrong. She was easy to follow, explained things well and used humor. My daughter thought the 90 minute session was very helpful and went by quickly.

"French Native Speaker and Graphic Designer"

Having been born and raised in Montreal, Canada, I grew up speaking and writing in French. I attended French schools all of my life which means I have more than just a few years of French learning but my whole education was immersed in French only. Not only can I say I speak French but lived in a French cultural environment. I spoke English too because my father was British which means that I learned how to translate back and forth between the two languages (that was very helpful at my jobs i... ... More

"The Renaissance tutor: for the humanities and sciences"

Many of my family members, friends, and students have ADD, so I have quite a bit of experience working with people who think outside the box. When working with students with ADD, I emphasize structure and repetition, while valuing their creativity. My enthusiasm for learning and tendency to have fun during lessons can also help homework seem interesting and spark student's curiosity. I am always amazed by the innovative intelligence that students with ADD can have and I love helping them optimize their talents. ... More

David has been very good with my teenage son. He has helped him grasp larger concepts than just the homework problems presented. He has given my son an excellent outlook and better study skills.

"Experienced Teacher In Legal Studies, Bar Exam, Science, Math and More"

We use ideas of economics every day in what we do. But how many of us really understand exactly why we act the way we do, in both short term actions and those of long term implications? Some of this is intuitive, some is thought out. Economics, the "dismal science" need not be really dismal. Allow me to simplify what seems confusing and unintelligible, without needing to resort to math concepts that are at best erudite, and at worst simply unreliable. ... More

I took the GMAT recently, and attempted to study for it on my own using three different study guides that were loaded with examples, practice problems, and methods. Despite my self-inflicted slavery to my studying, I did not do anywhere near as well as I had hoped I would on the Quantitative section of the test. However, within a few minutes of sitting down with John, I was learning alternative, easier ways to find the answers to problems that had plagued me from Day 1 of studying on my own. I also found myself doing a great deal of material mentally rather than writing it all out. John's teaching methods pulled me out of the black hole of complication brought about by my Kaplan study guides and showed me a simpler, more time-efficient way of finding answers without having an anxiety attack of second-guessing. He's very knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and great at building understanding and confidence. Great tutor!

"Patient, effective tutor for your most difficult subject"

ADD is not a disease or a defect, and people with ADD are not disabled. They are often frustrated, sometimes embarrassed, and they can become depressed because they are labeled as lazy or irresponsible and their best efforts are judged "not good enough." They live in a world which expects them to act in ways which are difficult for them to manage. Coping with ADD (or ADHD) is a matter of learning habits that most people don’t have to learn, of thinking about and doing things which most people don’t have to think about or do. It's not easy, but nothing worthwhile is easy. The ... More
