"Philosopher and Son of Two English Majors Available for Tutoring"
Both of my parents majored in English when they were in college, and they passed much of their knowledge on to me throughout my childhood. As a result, English was always my best subject in Elementary and High School. I love the English language, along with its nuances and its quirks. Late in High School, I discovered I also love Public Speaking. I competed three years in Forensics (Speech and Debate) on the High School level, and another three on the collegiate level. I like to think of ... ... More

Nancy L. is a rare gem in the world of teaching. Not only does she have a wealth of information, she has a way of presenting it to suit the needs of the individual student's learning style. She is exceptional in regents, prep and test taking skills. She is accommodating and fair. My daughter loved her! She goes above and beyond her role as a tutor. A real find.

"Multiple subjects for K-College students: ELA, History,Sci.Spec.needs"
As the parent of a son whose neurological testing confirmed the diagnosis, I made a commitment to study everything available to help him navigate the public school/special education system so that he could be successful in his educational endeavors. My son's experience and that of the many students I have tutored over the years confirms that the schools need to do more for these students than they have. ADD can significantly differ from ADHD to an extent that the two conditions should not be considered synomomous. Additionally, the hyperactive component is often outgrown as the child matures. ... Carilyn is an absolute pleasure. Her knowledge of writing and literature is impressive. She utilizes a variety of formats to engage her student. She adapts the lesson to suit the specific learning style of each individual student. My son has succeeded in truly understanding complex works of literature that he would certainly never have understood without Carilyn.

Jana is one of the most thoroughly organized and completely prepared 'teachers' I've ever encountered. She is so well prepared for lessons that not a single minute is wasted on "busy work". At their first meeting, Jana quickly identified what our son needed to work on to raise his score. Every assignment was geared to our student's specific needs. Homework assignments were laid out thoughtfully, with everything he needed to get on with the work. Our son had a good score to begin with, and after a few hours of Jana's time plus working on those home assignments, he bumped it up by 2 points. Jana is also very responsive to questions and very flexible with scheduling. When our younger child is ready to begin preparation, we will be asking Jana for help again.
