Jenn is an extremely knowledgeable tutor who knows Macroeconomics/Microeconomics, which is the subject she teaches, well. Her methods of explaining problems were clear, and she went further into the information to gain a deeper understanding that allowed me to be able to get good grade on my quiz. Thank you so much for all your time and patience!

"Math-Physics-Computer Help from a Skilled, Communicative Tutor"
I'm enthusiastic about tutoring -- I've been teaching and tutoring, as time permitted, starting when I was a graduate student.
My BA is in Maths and Computer Science, my PhD is in Physics, I did postdoctoral work in Biophysics, I was on the Physiology faculty at a university in Canada, and now I work in the Biotech field here in the Bay Area.
My approach when tutoring is to find a way to bring the student to that "aha" moment when things become clear. Not just to become clear for its own sa... ... More

"credentialed teacher, linguist and writer"
From 2007 to 2011 I worked as a Title I remedial reading and math teacher for grades 1 through 5. I had classes of 3 to 6 students throughout the day. The students were pulled from their regular classrooms to work with me because many of them needed special help due to ADD or ADHD. ... More

As a technical writer, I have been a Mac user since the first Mac came on the market. At that time, I was working on a contract with the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, Ca. We were all amazed and pleased with the graphical interface, the machine size, and what was then considered the terrific speed of the machine. Over the years, I have moved from one Mac to another as newer systems and better hardware became available and have used a variety of apps, including Microsoft Office, mail programs, Adobe products, media apps, and security programs as required by my clients. I now have two MAC lapto ... More
My child's Alg2/Trig AP grade needed to be raised to the next grade level (something like 6-10%...hard to say precisely as there were always ungraded/unrecorded items outstanding) with only 6 weeks remaining in school year. Thanks to John, we achieved that goal with room to spare. John's approach is methodical -- he pinpoints the specific areas where your child needs help, and provides that. Sometimes teachers/textbooks focus more on the mechanics of problem solving without enough time/attention given to the underlying concepts (especially in fast-moving advanced/AP/HP classes). My child generally understood how to solve problems mechanically (and could often do so); however, without a firm foundational grasp, it was difficult to apply that knowledge to more complicated/abstract situations. This was especially true when translating word problems into soluble equations. John provided the missing foundational knowledge, which in turn allowed the mechanical problem-solving to be more successfully (and quickly) applied. John was also very flexible in meeting our scheduling needs. We only had a small number of test opportunities remaining in the year, so preferred to have sessions the night before to maximize "freshness"; unfortunately, tests were often announced only a day or two in advance. With short notice, John always did his best to find some amount of time meet our needs. I wasn't looking for some Dead Poets wannabe to put the Joy of Math into my child; I needed someone who could help bring my child's grade up significantly in a short time. John did just that.
She is wonderful and is helping both of my boys. She is extremely patient and has helped my son who was struggling bring his grade up to an "A." He is so much more confident now. She helped with organizational skills and continues to check to make sure he is staying organized. I would highly recommend her. She is punctual and reliable.
Under Kelly's tutelage, I completed my Masters' program. She's very knowledgeable about concepts that improve quality of assignments and student products. She has great academic experience and skills.
