"Tutor for all levels of Math and History, and many more subjects"

My name is Marty, and I would love to tutor your children in whatever they need help in. I majored in History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and also achieved an Associates in Science from Parkland Community College. For my Associates degree, I studied mostly chemistry and math, but also physics and biology. For my history major, I mostly studied European History, but also took many classes in U.S. and Ancient History. I feel that I am very proficient in all areas and ... ... More

"Curriculum for Struggling Readers, Writers, ESL, and TOEFL test prep"

I became a tutor during my undergraduate studies. During this time, my children were in elementary, middle, and high schools. Over the years, I frequented their schools as a volunteer and realized that the number of students struggling with reading, writing, and English had continuously increased. Initially I went back to school to facilitate these student populations with English, but I began teaching adult English learners through a local tutoring program and expanded my knowledge of learni... ... Our first grader was struggling with reading and was quickly falling behind by Christmastime. She was in the bottom level reading group at school and was very reluctant to accept help from Mom or Dad. She didn't "like" to read because she had so much difficulty. She also became frustrated easily and as a result, her confidence level was rapidly declining. When Mary first came to us, she was prepared with assessment tools which she immediately administered to our daughter. Mary quickly determined our daughter's strengths and weaknesses in reading and developed a plan of tutoring specifically tailored to our daughter's needs. In a few weeks we started noticing marked improvement in her reading ability. Throughout the tutoring sessions, Mary continually re-evaluated our daughter and planned future lessons accordingly. She also provided great feedback to us on our daughter's progress. Mary was able to accomplish what our daughter's teacher AND parents could not. We are so very happy with Mary - she is extremely strong academically, and also very patient and easily able to re-direct our first-grader's outgoing (and frequently fidgety) demeanor. Mary has a great sense of humor and laughs a lot with our daughter while remaining completely professional. Our daughter looks forward to her sessions with Mary because with Mary, learning is fun. We could not have asked for a more outstanding tutor. She has a flexible schedule and informs us of schedule changes well in advance. She has always been punctual. She is very forthcoming with feedback regarding our daughter's progress, as well as her thoughts/plan for future lessons. Mary is also proactive -- at the end of first grade and throughout the summer, she has been working with our daughter to bridge the reading gap between first and second grade to prepare her for the next school year. In all honesty, we don't have anything negative to report! Mary is the BEST.

"Effective and Certified Teacher Specializing in Reading/Writing"

Hi, my name is Mary. I have taught for over 12 years at the elementary level, and received my MA through Lewis University in reading and literacy in 2010. My passion is seeing a student begin to believe in themselves and discover that learning can be fun. Over the past six years, I have independently tutored students, ages 5-10, in reading, language arts, social studies, writing, and basic math. Prior to tutoring independently, I worked at a local tutoring agency with students from age 4-12... ... More

Richard W. was very responsive to our needs right off the bat. He contacted us promptly, asked for and reviewed the class and website material prior to the first tutoring session, confirmed the appointment and arrived on time the day after Thanksgiving! My daughter liked him instantly and felt he was easy to talk to. Further, she said she understood the material much better after just one session with Richard. My daughter and I are feeling much more comfortable about her success with Richard's help.

"Multiple Level Tutor"

As a teacher with 20+ years of experience, I have planned, implemented, monitored, and assessed classroom instructional programs with effective measures and techniques which help improve student participation and learning. This has resulted in consistently significant improvement in national norms on standardized achievement tests at each school I've taught. Classrooms I have taught have achieved rates of 97% at or above average on the ISAT in math, as well as 85% achievement at or above av... ... More

"Patient and Experienced Reading and Elementary Tutor"

For the past year, I have been a City Year member in an elementary school in Washington DC. City Year is an Americorps program that places corps members in under-resourced schools to work as tutors, mentors, and teachers' aides. As a City Year member in a third grade classroom, my primary responsibility was to work with students that were struggling with reading. Every day, I would pull out 3-5 students that tested below grade level in reading and would work through comprehension and flue... ... More
