My name is Jeri. I am a lifelong resident of the Sagemont/South Belt area and have taught here for 17 years. I have a lot of experience with test prep including STAAR, PSAT, SAT and AP testing. My content areas are social studies and business but I have expertise in test taking strategies. I have stepped outside of the classroom recently as I hope to train and prepare young adults in the work force but I am still dedicated to getting young people ready to enter college as well. I can help ... ... More

"Math Tutoring - Flexible Schedule"

When I graduated from Incarnate Word High School, I had no clue which career field I wanted to invest my college education at St. Mary's University. I changed my major 5 times. I was taking a sociology class and was required to participate with a community service organization and chose Communities In Schools. As a mentor/tutor, it planted the idea of going into education. I went a step further and obtained a position with AVID at a Northside ISD middle school and made my decision. I was ... ... More

I am a 46 year old returning student taking College Algebra. In my youth, I took this class three times and had to drop it because I just do not have an easy time with math. I contacted Cheryl for help and was very pleased with her approach. She made sacrifices to meet me at a time and place that was convenient for me and was very patient during the lessons. She explained things in a manner that was easy for me to understand and helped me a great deal. I have no problem recommending her for any subject in which she is qualified to tutor.

My wife and two children are from Wichita Falls, where we both attended college at Midwestern State University. That is where I earned my teaching degree. I then moved to the metroplex and have been teaching at Duncanville High School for five years. This is where I taught students with learning disabilities how to pass the STAAR Test. I have taught Algebra I and Geometry, but am certified to teach any math in public schools. I am a Texas certified teacher in 4th grade through 12th g... ... More

"Certified Teacher, striving towards student success!"

I have 17 years of experience as a teacher and an administrator in 4 different elementary schools. I have experience teaching children as well as helping teachers provide appropriate instruction and intervention for struggling learners. I spent 5 years teaching first grade. During those 5 years, I also worked with small groups of 3rd-5th graders, after school and during the summer, to help prepare them for state assessment. My administrator experience gave me a good understanding of best i... ... More

In just the first few sessions, this tutor was able to give my teen perspective on the individual pieces of information she was learning, which significantly increased her understanding of the material. It's one thing for a student to be able to recite math theories, but it's significantly better for that student to know how, when and why to apply those theories to actual problems. The impact was immediate -- my teen was able to complete the entire section of problems she worked on alone after the review session, because she had been given the tools to analyze the problems. We could not be more pleased with the quality of the services provided by this tutor, nor with his accessibility and dedication to making sure that the student has a thorough understanding of the material as a foundation for future learning. A+

"Certified in Math; Experienced in Math, Science, SS, E/LA, Test Prep"

I have tutored and/or taught Algebra I for over 40 years. While majoring in math in college, I often helped fellow students who were struggling with math. The math courses I took in college included Calculus, Advanced Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Abstract Algebra. During my years as a graduate student at Duke University, I tutored undergraduates and students in the MBA program. I am certified in Secondary Math in the State of Texas and have taught Algebra I in the Irving ISD. Topics usually covered in Algebra I include number systems, properties of real numbers, order of operations (PEMDAS), ... More

Kristin has been a wonderful help to my seven year old grandson who has struggled in first grade with reading. She tailors her approach to his level and is full of positive reassurance and feed back to him. Building interest and self esteem in a child who has had a struggle is a remarkable feat in itself. Kristin is very engaging with my grandson as well as his parents. At the end of each session she gives them any updates as to how she views things are going and any suggestions she may have. She is an excellent tutor!

"Bi-Cultural teacher of Spanish, All Levels, Extensive Experience"

I have 32 years of teaching experience. I have taught Spanish to Kindergarten through adult levels. I have always taught, whether whole class groups or single students, as this is very fulfilling work for me, and what I am best at. It's important for me to see the light of understanding dawn on the faces of my students. I began with middle and high school, and then for 22 years I taught elementary school. Most recently, I have been teaching elementary Spanish part-time at an Episco... ... More

"All elementary grades, subjects, and test prep "

My teaching philosophy has always been "Give them a fish and they'll eat for a day, teach them how to fish and they'll eat forever." Without a routine in place to reach your goals and feel confident, it is so easy for students to feel overwhelmed while their assignments pile up. It is my goal to learn my clients' learning styles and personalities in order to see what will specifically help them to succeed. After receiving my masters degree in education, I had the pleasure of working as a ... ... More

Shirin helped me pass a Managerial Finance class that was taken online. Had I not found out about WyzAnt and Shirin I wouldn't have passed the class. She was able to explain finance concepts to me and show me examples on how to do the homework assignments. I would definitely recommend her. She helped me receive a B in my class.
Brian came to our home with short notice and tutored my daughter for one hour for her Math SAT's. When she retook the test a few days later -Woot Woot! Her Math score went up from 590 to 710 --120 points!!!! Ya can't beat that. This was more about helping her review and calming her stress and increasing her confidence as she of course had a working knowledge and grasp of this subject in order to achieve these scores. She had had a complication taking her first SAT's that set her off her mark, but we are certain that Brian's help and expert knowledge of Math SAT's was essential to this increase. Thank you Brian. We are happy to recommend you to others. I didn't realize I had to rate you within a certain time frame... So I am doing it here ... 5 stars!
Jeannine is VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE, an EXCELLENT tutor, VERY PATIENT, I can't say enough GREAT things. There aren't enough words to describe all the help I've received.
When teaching a lesson, what really matters is if the instructor can take a complex topic and assume the student knows absolutely nothing about the task at hand and take him/her from zero knowledge to expert in step-by-step chunks in a reasonable time. This is what Farah R did with my daughter and I am personally thrill with her math tutoring session and I highly recommend her math tutoring services.
