I have taught English to high school students for five years, and served as a substitute for nine years. I have taught Adult Basic Ed and Online High School at a local colony. I can tutor most subjects for junior high/middle school. I would focus on English/Literature, but can do early math, early science, and history/government at the high school level with confidence. We have met with Catherine three times. I was looking for a tutor to help my son finish french 1 in middle school and get prepared for french 2 in high school. The first lesson she was 45 minutes late. The second lesson she was 17 minutes late. The third lesson she hasn't arrived yet but was set for 30 minutes ago. *Update* she emailed and canceled 30 minutes after the time when she was to arrive. Second, she charges for time she is not tutoring. After her first lesson she talked to me to give a review of how she thought my son was doing. This time was charged for. The second visit she was told we had to leave at 6 so we cut it short to a 45 minute lesson. She put that she left at '6:03' so she'd get an extra 5 minutes of pay. She also asked if I wanted her to 'go over' what they had done during their lesson. Considering she was late showing up, it was time to leave to get my son to his recital AND she would charge to give a review, I kindly said no. I feel when you request an hour lesson, you should be expected to pay for an hour lesson. If it's a 45 minute lesson you shouldn't put an extra 3 minutes in the timer for the time it took for her to get out the door. I feel I gave this tutor every chance and few people would have given her a 3rd chance after the first two incidents. My son enjoyed working with her but I can't condone working with someone who cannot be punctual.
I am a C++ beginner taking an online programming class at a college. I desperately was in need of a tutor to work with me one-on-one and make me feel more comfortable on the C++ concepts. Not only has Kay made me feel more comfortable with this class, but also more confident in my ability to actually learn code. She forces me to exercise my critical thinking skills to solve problems instead of just telling me the answer. Kay's patience, knowledge on the subject, and friendly demeanor has already made my anxiety level go down significantly this semester. I am so glad I found her!
