"Orton Gillingham Reading Tutor"

I am an Orton-Gillingham tutor and have retired after 40 years as the lower school reading tutor in a New Jersey school, where I tutored the dyslexics (borderline, severe, and garden variety) and the late bloomers (the ones who respond too quickly to instruction to be classified as dyslexic). I still love to watch my pupils become confident readers. and I enjoy the process of getting there. Like all Orton-Gillingham tutors, my approach is systematic, sequential, alphabetic, and intersen... ... More

My son REALLY enjoys working with Carolyn B. After the first meeting he said to me, "Isn't it weird how you can just meet someone for the first time and they are already making such a difference in your life?" After the second meeting, he was so excited to get going with his homework that he spent another hour working on it because he was so excited about what he had learned during his time with her. She was quick to figure out his learning style and has motivated him to challenge himself to become a better reader. We feel blessed to have the opportunity to have her work with our son and would highly recommend her to anyone else that is seeking a tutor!

Melissa has done a great job with my son. She has provided him with tools (Apps) to utilize outside of school and tutoring to supplement what they are working on. She is extremely caring and creates a great atmosphere for him to learn and be challenged!!!

"Tutoring should be a relief, not a burden!"

I'm an NH State certified special and general educator with over 20 years experience, bachelors and masters degree in education. Many students I work with have this diagnosis. And, in my experience, 1:1 tutoring is very productive for a student with A.D.H.D. As a tutor, I interact with the student as an individual learner, especially to establish a rapport of trust. As the student works, I observe and can see where things may be breaking down. Tutoring provides students with privacy so they are insulated from embarrassment in front of peers. A student must learn to capitalize on the their ... More

"Lesley University Graduate Specializing in Learning Difficulties"

I've taught numerous students who have ADD or ADHD. The main difference between the two is that students with ADD typically are easily distracted and tend to have racing thoughts which prevents them from keeping focused for longer periods of time. Students with ADHD have the above problems, but they also have hyperactivity problems, such as not being able to sit still or keeping their hands still. Their bodies are overstimulated and require additional tools/feedback,so that they can improve their attention span. Many students with ADD or ADHD tend to need some form of physical therapy, occupat ... More
