I knew from childhood I wanted to be a teacher, but never fit into the system very well. As an "outsider", I have tasted the cultural and educational difficulties students can have. In order to build a strong understanding of any subject there are three things that are needed a) a reason to learn b) a willingness to try c) a good teacher These 3 things are clearly related. A good teacher helps provide a reason to learn, and willingness to try help makes a good student. Over the last 15 years, I've placed numerous pieces in major motion pictures, including "3000 miles to Graceland" starring Kevin Costner and Kurt Russel - as well numerous History Channel episodes including "Little ice Age, Big Chill" -- and video games such as Midway's "Road Kill". Presently I work as a Reading Specialist with Middle and High School special needs students. My case load consists of students with a variety of disabilities such as Autism, Aspergers, ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia,and emotional difficulties.For my students with ADD/ADHD I am very cognizant that they may need periods of time within each session to move about and that as instruction occurs they may need to manipulate something in their hands or possibly chew gum. What I do best is engage students one-on-one or in very small groups. The conscientious student will learn the material, and will learn to think critically about the material.
