I teach basic chords and songs, reading as well as advanced chord scales utilized in jazz improvisation.

I am patient and like to see my students progress. This brings me much joy! My schedule is flexible and I am willing to work with students especially who show initiative and want to learn.

For teaching, I often use the Alfred books as I find them thorough and logical.I've taught all age groups and am adept at helping students progress.I have many years teaching at music colleges as well as private lessons.I have 3 CDs released internationally and have performed throughout the world.I enjoy it when students bring in a song they want to learn. That is one of the best ways to internalize music.

I graduated from UCLA magna cum laude with college honors. I possess a Bachelor’s degree in economics as well as a specialization in business and a minor in accounting. I have five years of experience as an educator which includes tutoring students at the graduate, undergraduate, high school, and middle school levels as well as working as a drum teacher.

After college, I spent a year working full time for one of the ‘Big Four’ global public accounting firms while simultaneously studying for and successfully passing all four sections of the CPA exam with an average score of 94%. My rigorous work experience and the balance I had to achieve, between working upwards of 55 hours per week and studying, have allowed me to further hone the organizational skills that I picked up as a student. In addition to tutoring students in specific subjects, I am often consulted to help students with organization, planning, time management, and effective study habits so that they can succeed in rigorous academic environments.

My name is Zachary. My interest in tutoring started when I was a middle school student myself, helping a few classmates study for tests or cram for the state-required evaluations. When I was in high school, I started tutoring students in Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus I for cash, and quickly found I could make good money tutoring a wide range of subjects. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Baker University in Psychology, while continuing to tutor in increasing subject areas like English, biology, chemistry and philosophy. My graduate degree is a Master's of Science in Experimental Psychology, which was a statistics-heavy degree path.

When I tutor, I like to first discover how students are most comfortable learning. Psychology has long held that multiple learning styles exist, and while debate continues to rage over which style is best I prefer to think of each style as having its own strengths and drawbacks. However, I have learned to teach to many different styles, and can teach contextually, rote, test-oriented or experience-based lessons. I am also comfortable with group tutoring, having led several classes of students in graduate school.

I've passed CBEST (the test teachers take to get licensed in California), CSET General Science subject tests, and also the CSET Biology and Chemistry subtests. I graduated from college summa cum laude with a 3.9 GPA. I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a Psychology minor. I achieved a lot of advanced, in-depth science knowledge from attending medical school. In any case, the strength of a good tutor lies not only in mastering the knowledge, but in also being able to deliver it to the student effectively. I've been told by my students that I am a pro at this! If you let me tutor you, I guarantee that you will truly understand the material better. Also, I have a magnetic personality, so I guarantee that you will have a lot of fun during our tutoring sessions!

One of my strengths as a tutor lies in the fact that I am very versatile, both in terms of the age groups I can work with, and the subjects I can teach. This versatility is actually what I enjoy most about my tutoring experiences. Currently, I am working with students in elementary school, high school, college and also graduate school. Experience: I worked in the drop-in tutoring center during community college tutoring all math through Calc I, English/Writing, and Speech/Communications. I also worked at a Kumon Math and Reading center with students as young as kindergarten and have worked as a freelance tutor for math, general study skills/all subjects with clients ranging from Junior High School students in need of remedial help to older adult graduate students returning to math or stats after many years. I have worked with students from public, private, and homeschool backgrounds successfully and make sure to keep parents "in the loop" as full partners invested in the student's learning. I have also taught 4-H dog training classes before – nothing phases me after fifteen 8-16 year old 4-H members with their completely untrained dogs show up on the first night! Training dogs and teaching kids to train them has taught me a great deal about how we learn and how to motivate learning.

Further Qualifications: I earned a double-degree in Mathematics and Cognitive Science (the study of how we think, learn, process, remember, and solve problems) with a 3.9+ GPA and am currently in a Master's program studying Mathematics and teaching undergraduate mathematics courses. My future goal is to teach community college and to research the cognitive processes and pedagogy of teaching mathematics.

I am a magna cum laude college graduate with a BA in history and a VA secondary social studies teaching license. Though I am not certified to teach English, I have extensive experience as a paid writing tutor, and my Middle School English Praxis II scores qualify me to teach English under certain conditions. More importantly than the above qualifications, I really love working with kids, both on an academic level and informally. As a tutor, my preliminary goal is, of course, to improve my students' understanding of the material in order to improve their grades. However, I find little lasting value in improved grades if there is not a corresponding increase in self confidence/perseverance and intellectual curiosity. Of course, few students love every subject they study. I have never loved math and always found it hard to earn good grades in such classes. However, I have learned to appreciate its intrinsic value and through my struggles with it, I have gained greater confidence and learned perseverance. I hope to teach my students about the intrinsic value of English and history and about the great value in setting and achieving difficult goals. I want to do this by genuinely getting to know my students — understanding how they think, what motivates and interests them, and who they are as individuals inside and outside the classroom. I believe that if I can understand your student as a person, not just as a GPA or learning disability (for example), then I can point them to the ways in which English and history can be important to them as an individual. I also believe that tutors should learn as much from their students as they teach. This requires patience, humility, and a listening ear, as well as good preparation and a thorough knowledge base, all of which are qualities that I will strive to have as a tutor for your student.

To me Science is a verb; it is active and on-going. Rather than make students memorize what Scientists have learned, I prefer to teach them how they learned it, and hopefully in that way they can begin to truly understand and think for themselves.

I have a PhD in Chemistry with over 5 years experience as a chemistry tutor. I have had a lot of successes in tutoring.

For example I was hired by the mother of a high school student, who failed his final Grade 12 chemistry exams to prepare him for a retake of the exam. After meeting with the student for 2 hours he retook the exam and passed. I also tutored an undergraduate student (in general chemistry, organic chemistry, and DAT chemistry preparation), who had no background in science but was interested in going to dental school. He had a minimum of B's in his classes and he is now in dental school. My tutoring methods involves bringing chemistry to the level of the student and approaching the problems from their perspective whether middle school, high school, or college students.
