A Warning Against the Growing Hype of Anti-Aging Medicine
The AARP Andrus Foundation and the International Longevity Center – USA (ILC-USA) have launched a joint publications project to bring some of today’s most concise scholarly research regarding longevity and population aging issues to the general public.
The first of five AARP Andrus Foundation/ILC-USA publications: "Is There an Anti-Aging Medicine?" provides readers with new information about the growing anti-aging industry, arming them with knowledge that will make them informed consumers.
“It is extremely important that this publication be accessible to non-scholarly audiences,” Dr. Butler, said. “The average baby-boomer consumer is the one being targeted by the anti-aging movement. A well informed consumer has the best defense.”
An Industry Based on Unproven Products
The report points out that the multibillion-dollar anti-aging industry markets products that are not required to register with the Food and Drug Administration or seek the agency’s approval.
It offers specific facts and figures consumers should know when considering several popular anti-aging treatments, including growth hormone injections, herbal remedies and vitamins and minerals.
