Gallup Survey Reveals Findings on Sleep and Healthy Aging
A growing body of science links sleep to a host of ills, including depression, anxiety, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity and more.
In November, 2005, we commissioned a survey with Gallup to document older adults' awareness and attitudes on a range of issues, including the importance of sleep, sleep behavior and coping mechanisms and attitudes toward sleep and aging.
One in two respondents (47%) report they are getting less then seven hours a sleep a night. One in three (34%) feel they need more sleep than they are currently getting.
63% of respondents ranked “good sleep quality” fourth of five healthy lifestyle factors
Perceived Causes of Poor Sleep
Perceived causes of poor sleep include worrying, and health conditions such as cancer, hypertension, and heart conditions.
