Report on Sexuality, Health and Older Adults Taps ILC-USA Author
The New England Journal of Medicine has published a new study on sexuality, health and older adults, under lead author Dr. Stacy Tessler Lindau. The report finds that a majority of Americans ages 57 to 85 are sexually active, and view intimacy as an important part of life.
Dr. Lindau studied under ILC-USA's Robert Butler, M.D., and wrote our own report entitled "Intimacy & Sexuality: Toward a Lifespan Perspective".
Dr. Lindau has also presented at our annual Age Boom Academy, a five day long series of talks and workshops designed to heighten journalists' understanding of the complex issues associated with today's unprecedented increase in longevity.
Butler Quoted in Media Coverage of the Study
ILC-USA's President & CEO Dr. Robert N. Butler is quoted in several media outlets reporting on the study, including The New York Times below:
“There’s a large perception out there that sex somehow does not occur in the later years, and this study demonstrates authoritatively that for many people sexual activity does not diminish much at all,” said Dr. Robert N. Butler, president of the International Longevity Center in New York and co-author with his late wife, Myrna I. Lewis, of “Love and Sex After Sixty.”
