Walk Off Those Extra Pounds Without Dieting
A new study published in the the Annals of Family Medicine finds that wearing a pedometer may help you lose extra pounds, even if you don't diet. Researchers reported that the use of a pedometer alone resulted in participants losing about 1 pound every 10 weeks, or 5 pounds a year.
The University of Michigan study comes hot on the heels of a Stanford study, published in November, that showed that pedometers motivate people to walk more, improving blood pressure as well as weight.
The study searched 6 electronic databases and contacted pedometer experts to identify pedometer-based walking studies that did not restrict diet. On average, the researcher's noted that pedometer walkers enjoyed a modest amount of weight loss, with longer programs resulting in more weight loss than shorter programs.
