Need help in your Accounting Class?
Need help in Math or Reading?
I worked as a CPA, both in public and private accounting, for many years. My experience includes managerial accounting, job-costing, consolidations, payroll, setting up books of account, year-end closing and various tax filings. Excel and Word featured as well.
Math and Reading are important, and I help students with these vital subjects. From Elementary to College students, I am patient and encouraging.
My approach to...
My general ledger, journal entry and reconciliation experience is supported with years of working with many various companies, compiling consolidated financial statements and doing partnership, corporate and non-profit tax returns.
My experience with managerial/cost accounting is supported with years of working with job-costing analysis.
I find economics interesting, both microeconomics and macroeconomics. Economics makes sense to me and I did well in my college classes. I bring this enthusiasm for economics to students through tutoring.
I am a valuable resource for K-6 education. I worked for a year at my children's elementary school in the classrooms, library, nurse's office, lunch room and as playground monitor.
Specific volunteer experience for K-6 education includes listening to and reading to second and third graders and asking questions to establish comprehension.
My tutoring methods include flashcards, listening to students read out loud, practicing vocabulary words and other methods depending on a student's needs.
The biggest asset I have is my enthusiasm for getting involved and making learning fun.
Math can be fun! I have an strong background in math and a desire to help adults and children develop their math skills. Practical examples are everywhere in life and I believe applying math principles to these situations makes math come alive for students.
I am highly qualified to assist with English studies. During college, even though I graduated with a degree in Finance & Management, I took more English Department courses, including Rhetoric and Creative Writing classes with the Iowa Writers Workshop.
English is my favorite subject. I enjoy it and hope that enthusiasm affects the students I tutor.
I started my career by taking manual systems and converting them to computer systems, mostly in accounting. I have worked with computers for over 30 years, including training other employees in over a dozen programs. I have a very good grasp of basic computer knowledge and skills.
I've used Microsoft Excel in most of my jobs as a requirement. I'm familiar with the basic menus as well as formulas, functions, macros, pivot tables and multi-page spreadsheets.
I self taught Word from their tutorials 20 years ago and have been using it daily since. I have picked up tips and more skills over the years from other people, as well as sharing my knowledge with them. I have a strong grasp of Word.
I have been volunteer proofreading since I was in elementary school, during the summers I would help my Mother by proofing her typing (before computers). I have continued to help others with proofreading since then -- in high school and college and then at jobs I have held. I have a knack for catching errors.
I believe that reading aloud is VERY beneficial to students. I provide that attentive ear for student's practice. Checking comprehension is also important. Another technique that helps with reading is to memorize "sight words."
By tutoring students about the different aspects of studying, such as note taking, they can make study time more effective. Some of the methods I suggest are memorization, organization, study breaks and movement. I encourage a quiet place to study, free from distraction. The student's learning style needs to be considered. My preparation for the CPA exam gave me lots of practice. I am effective at encouraging Study Skills.
