I am a PhD graduate of the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB). I've been teaching and tutoring mathematics for over 10 years. My strongest personal characteristics in tutoring are that I'm good with children and adults with anxiety or attention deficit disorder, patient with the student, and encouraging. There are objectives that I have when tutoring the student: explaining the material so that the student understands it, building self-confidence in the student's ability to solve problems...
I have been diagnosed with ADD twice, once as a child, and again as an adult. I believe having the disorder helps me understand the struggles of an ADD student. I have also tutored a child in 5th grade with ADHD. My effort was well received, I found that my experiences helped me approach the solution in a manner that kept his attention. I've also taught several courses at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB). The classes almost always included at least two students with the disorder who required special attention. Finally, I'm patient -- patience will always be needed when tutoring a student with ADD/ADHD.
