I have been meeting with a 16 year old boy who has a combination of Asperger's (a form of Autism), OCD, and ADD since August of 2011. My role has been to help him develop his "life skills". His mother describes one of my keen skills as knowing just when to "push" her son to get more out of him and when to "back off" still keeping her son on task, making the best use of the time that the boy and I are together. One of the "life skills" that boy wanted to improve was to be more dependable. I have used an analogy of stepping stones to get across a creek or a stream, one stone at a time. In this analogy, a stepping stone is one simple area of self improvement in life. With my sitting with the boy, in a calm, quite, non-threatening mode, the boy has outlined his own stepping stone approach to at least 6 areas of his life. He has already improved his grades, doing better at being a contributor to the family, taking better care of his own clothes, and being a good contributor during his school classes. An additional benefit is that many of the boy's medications have been reduced in strength or eliminated entirely. I have read and studied many sources of motivational materials and have the patience to convey the motivational ideas in very small increments, adapting the delivery of the ideas at a pace that I feel the boy can accept.

My qualifications include a previous consulting relationship with a leading publisher and distributor of books in the field of Autism and Asperger Syndrome. In this relationship, I had the opportunity to interface directly with several university level experts in the field of Autism. As a result of my relationship with the publishing company, I was provided with and read several of the leading books in the field of Autism.
